Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It has to be. Either that or alien octopuses. How else can they routinely service the 996s and change the spark plugs in those cramped spaces without going berserk and whacking the car? I recently did the whole 60k servicing on my own and boy .... boy was the spark plug routine demanding on my fingers ! The hex nuts on the spark plug caps are a PAIN !! With now with the pain gone, all is now good ! The car definitely feels SO much better with the new sparks. Either that or the new mobile1 0W40 is kick ***. The seat of my pants actually feels a noticeable difference (or just placebo?). The older sparks had quite some deposit on the tips - white, ash like powder. Is there something I can add to the fuel to clean them up periodically ?? I've seen stuff like that at gas stations, but don't know if they are gimmicks or we can use them on our 996s. BTW, the whole spark plug change had one positive moment. The 2 easiest to change spark plugs, when you take them out, boy - take a peek inside ! I've never seen that much "engine insides" before. Not that its a lot, but its the most I'll probably ever see on my own ... I wouldn't have the b@ll$ to open up the engine ever !

POST 3Original post

Sid - drop the mufflers (from the the stud flange mounted to the engine), after you do, it is a piece of cake to access the coil packs and plugs.

POST 4Original post

I cannot locate the article but GUM OUT Fuel injector won a "comparison test" of the many touted fuel injector cleaners out there. I have also read many good reviews about JECTRON (FI cleaner) and VENTIL SAUBER (vallve cleaner) amongst the bimmer guys: http://www.gprparts.com/brands/lubroMoly/

We are not gnomes. We simply have more tools and experience. Plus with each Porsche dealership comes a truck load of gnomes. I keep mine well fed and in the bottom drawer of my toolbox.
