Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have tried all the tricks I would find and checked all the fuses.
Leading evidence: 'Check fuses' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuses' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

This car could either be a bargain, or something top run a mile from.

This should really be setting alarm bells off, but he insists he has plenty of receipts and invoices, dating back at least 10 years with plenty of work being done, including IMS shaft at 77K and clutch this year.

I've tried a quick search using my phone but couldn't find any info.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

There are various methods of reversing the key fob battery and locking procedures on this site but to be honest only the reverse of the fob battery has every worked for me and rarely at that .
I've tried a quick search using my phone but couldn't find any info.
I've bought second hand key fobs for my other cars and programmed them and the transponder chip, then got a key cut to add a spare fob and key.
Does anyone know if this can be done easily on 996's? Is there some software and a cable for Porsche's which allow it?
I've seen a 3.4 C4 convertible with hard top which ticks the boxes for me. Blue with black interior, manual, convertible with hard top, just under 100K, new clutch, service history and a decent price at £10.5K. Sounds like it needs front tyres and front drop links as these were advised on the last MOT, which runs out in a couple of weeks, but I presume will be extended 6 months?
It only has one key though, which I'm never keen on.[/u]
Thanks. Not as bad as I thought.
I'm waiting for the guy to ring me back as I have lots of questions about it before I entertain a 3 hour journey to view it.
It seems a bit cheap at £10.5K, so I'm a bit sceptical at the moment. Says it had a new clutch, but no mention of IMS/RMS, which you'd like to think a 996 owner would have had them at least check at the same time.
Just an update.
I've spoken to the seller and there is no service book. This should really be setting alarm bells off, but he insists he has plenty of receipts and invoices, dating back at least 10 years with plenty of work being done, including IMS shaft at 77K and clutch this year.
He's going to MOT it tomorrow, if it passes, for £10.5K it might be worth a punt.
If you have the V5 for your car then you are entitled to walk into any OPC and get what we call the IPAS codes .. these are the security numbers for immobiliser , key teaching code etc .
They are after all your property which Porsche safeguards for you .
You need these numbers plus a tester plus a brand new key fob to code it onto a car .. the transponder on a 996 .. the bit that starts the car can be second hand .. the remote unlocking cant .. it must be a new fob .
Transponder is the glass pil inside the key fob ( key head ) .
The advice in Australia (since about 3 months ago) is that they will not give the learn codes to any independents and will only do the work themselves. My 2003 TT has lost its connection with the original and the newer key heads as the PO let the battery go flat. The car locks manually and runs well in all respects but the remote entry and locking is no go.A real pain as you have 10 secs to put in and turn the key. I have tried all the tricks I would find and checked all the fuses. The OPC will want to start with anew key fob I guess and probably want me to get another immobiliser module.
Any suggestions welcomed as I have run out of ideas!
The usual repair is im afraid a new key fob , you Never need a new control unit for this ..
There are various methods of reversing the key fob battery and locking procedures on this site but to be honest only the reverse of the fob battery has every worked for me and rarely at that .
Also .. strange rules there .. the IPAS codes are the car owners property .. they are part of your car and as long as you can prove its your car they have to supply them .. thats this country though but i'm amazed they can withhold your property regardless of the country ...
You can get them .. perhaps an Indy cant in essence .
Pretty sure a V5 to an OPC or Indy in this country who has access could soon get you the codes regardless of where you live .
Many thanks DeMort. I fully agree on owner access to the IPAS codes. Porsche Australia have locked down the ship in recent months as the independents started doing more and selling (Porsche) spare parts at half the price of the OPCs. I will not be leaving without those codes.
My nearest OPC is a 4-hour round trip but does have, however, the equipment to read the signal from the key and the signals to and from the immobiliser. I suspect that an independent has had a go entering a new (3rd) key in the past and entered too many codes or incorrect codes and ALL keys are locked out. Everything else works (especially the pesky alarm) so I think it is not the immobiliser itself.
He did say he'd MOT it and get back to me. He's since updated the advert to say it has a "full MOT". This car could either be a bargain, or something top run a mile from. A 2000 996 C4 Cabrio with hard top, Lapis Blue with black leather, 99,500 miles and a new clutch. The only concern is no service book, but he claims to have receipts for all services dating back over 10 years, including IMS shaft work 20,000 miles ago. No problems to report.
For £10,500, I think it's worth a punt if the MOT shows no horrors, as it looks quite tidy from the photos.
