Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have seen some rumors around the internet that changes are coming to the Porsche European Delivery Program. I have read that the cost will be zero and other benefits will apply including the loan of winter tires for two weeks. Has anyone heard about this? I personally think this approach would make this option dramatically more attractive.

POST 2Original post

In the old days [356] you would get a 10% discount for picking up your car at the factory. The last time tnat I checked, 5 years ago, the chage was 2500 USD to cover insurance & tags for pick up. Call a dealer.

POST 3Original post

There is no free lunch. If European delivery is free and you get a loan of winter tires, I will then argue with the salesman that I want a bigger discount for saving Porsche money by NOT choosing European Delivery. Seriously - tags and insurance have to be sorted. Try getting tags and buying car insurance in a country where you are not resident - then add the little detail about it being for a Porsche. I did - the transit tags were easy enough, insurance on the other hand was impossible. No one would touch it. I had to strong arm our corporate insurance broker to get 24 hours of insurance... I don't see how you can get this for free...not to mention that you have to insure a driver who has never even heard of "priority from the right"....

POST 4Original post

What makes this subject interesting is that so many other German marks give you a discount, free insurance, 1 or 2 nights in a hotel, etc. How can they do it? Porsche wants that Porsche luxury tax.

POST 5Original post

The reason BMW offers a discount is that they save on taxes on the car being imported into the US. Part of these savings are passed on to the customer. So the argument that you can ask the dealer for a bigger discount because you are not taking Euro delivery is not applicable Porsche can do the same as BMW or they can keep the entire savings and charge $2000 or whatever as long as people are willing to pay it.

POST 6Original post

Some time ago, i remember reading that the euro delivery discounts were once subsidized by the German government both as an incentive to buy their cars as well as an effort to increase tourism. After the subsidies ended, some manufacturers stopped giving discounts (porsche), while others continued to (bmw and audi). Might be bunk, but it made sense to me.

Looks like most of it is explained here... European Vacation: Porsche Expands European Delivery Program - WOT on Motor Trend

POST 8Original post

Hi, I had an Euro Delivery for a BMW 5-Series in 2008. It was an incredible experience. I got a 7% discount off the US delivery price, which helped pay for the airfare and hotel. BMW also paid for 2 weeks of road insurance, port and customs fees, shipping back to US, etc. A delivery specialist explained all the features of my new car at the BMW Welt Center. I also took a factory tour, where they were making the 3 series. Many people assume that European car manufacturers are able to save on taxes for Euro Delivery, but that's not the case. This site has the best explanation for ED pricing. Why is BMW European Delivery Cheaper than US Delivery? I'm glad Porsche is following suit and not making Euro Delivery an extra cost option.

POST 9Original post

I did three Porsche euro deliveries in a row in 83-84-85. It was a different factory at that time. The tours were great and on the last one I was the only person on the tour. At that time the cars did not come out of the dealer's allotment and it was possible to get the euro delivery discount plus a dealer discount. It pretty much paid for your vacation. It's nice to see that they are once again making it more attractive.
