Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi to All My question is how smoothly or roughly is the 997.2 supposed to idle. I noticed that at idle after complete warm up that it seems to be a little rough. I can actually see the passenter seat back vibrating a little. Car runs fine and smooth as soon as I start to drive. Just curious if this is normal or should I be searching for something before it gets worse. Thanks for your help

POST 2Original post

There was a recall on the HPDI fuel pump for the 09s and maybe the 10s. Rough idle can occur due to HPDI fuel pump problems. I'd have it checked out by the dealer because there are other fuel system issues that could be a problem and affect the idle.

POST 3Original post

My two cents,.....yes, I have noticed this on my '11 C4S. It's not the smoothest idling engine for sure, but doesn't affect the car in any other way that I can find. The idle RPM never really varies, it just that the engine does not seem that smooth at idle, but anywhere above it, no probs. My former ' 06 Cayman S did idle smoother for sure. My car has never thrown any lights or codes and seems to be normal in every other way, so for now I'm taking this as a nature of the beast. BTW, I have heard a mention or two of it on other web forums also.

POST 4Original post

BTW. I have noticed that if you raise the idle with the accelerator about 100 or 150 rpm the idle does smooth out. Is there a way to adjust idle speed since the car is a manual it would not make the creep forward?? Bob

POST 5Original post

I noticed this in my 2005 as well, took it to the dealer when I first got it had them check everything and they said it was mint. Do you guys think this is true?

POST 6Original post

Yes, I also think that a couple of high rpm drives even in just first and second actually smoothened out the idle. Also, i now use shell premium exclusively and the idle does seem smoother. bob
