I am going to install my chain tensioners back into the car but only two out of the three had a washer installed. The one nearest the water pump (rear driver's side in my -00 996 3.4) didn't have any. When I look in Porsche's exploded view charts it looks like all three tensioners should have one. So is the best option here to install one or leave as is? Could the chain tension be screwed up if I install a washer as it will leave the tensioner a couple mm further out than before?

Hi I would install one. They are not expensive and that tensioner is a critical component. I have my two lower tensioners out at the moment (doing the ims) and I would not even consider reusing the old ones. If you get a leak here and have to remove the tensioner it will be a pain also. Yes they should all have a washer. They are just standard aluminium ones, any generic one of the right size will be fine. No Porsche magic to them. MC
