Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As per the title really - I've just got a Cayman R and whilst I can plug my iPhone into the Aux socket, I'd love to plug my Bovee in so I can stream it wirelessly, but I need this magic cable - Design 911 don't seem to have it, Porsche Hatfield don't have it (and say Porsche don't make it any more)...any other wise ideas? If I google I find various websites that list it, but most are in the US so I foresee them being a pain. Here's a pic of it - part number is apparently 99761247102

POST 2Original post

Is this not it? https://www.design911.co.uk/p/multimedia-connectin...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah sorry I should have said - they don’t have it. I’ve ordered it and then they told me ‘we don’t know when we’ll get this’. I assume they source stuff from Porsche and therefore can’t get it either.

POST 4Original post

That's annoying if they're offering stuff they can't supply. I had a similar issue trying to get hold of a cruise control stalk, just checked Ebay every day until one turned up. Good luck with it, hopefully you find one. Quite a few people changing their head units, so might be worth putting up a few wanted ads on the forums or Facebook.

POST 6Original post

Hi OP, I had one of those cables in my 987.2, they weren't much good to be honest. Hadn't heard of a Bovee but seems it might be a bluetooth transmitter that goes into the serial port? What I ended up doing was buying a bluetooth transmitter which plugged into the AUX input & USB for power. Something like one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Transmitter-Rec... Note: haven't actually used this one, but it looks the same as one bought 6/7 years ago.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all - I'll have a look online. Disappointed to see Design911 actually have taken my money, despite not having the item in stock. From memory, the audio skipping buttons only worked for music you listened to via the official Apple Music app. Spotify etc did not work with it. But like you I was using a converter to go from Serial to Lightning input so it could've been down to that. Good luck

POST 9Original post

Hi OP, I'm in exactly the same position having picked up a 997.2 a couple of weeks ago. Been searching for one of these earlier having paid d911 (plus a pretty ridiculous delivery charge) to be told it's on back order and who knows when they'll get one. Just seems to be none around on eBay or anywhere else! I've just been plugging an MP3 player into the aux socket up to now but it's a bit annoying not being able to have any control from the head unit. I'm hoping they'll bring out the PCCM+ for xx7.2 models at some point.

I'm hoping they'll bring out the PCCM+ for xx7.2 models at some point. Yeah, they have my money for now, but I'm rapidly giving up hope. I've emailed another OPC more in hope than anticipation. I've found an AUX/USB wire on ebay for a few quid which will plug into the iPhone and also the USB and aux ports, so hopefully the iphone will charge and give my music. What it won't do, of course, is allow the headunit any kind of control over the phone, but at least it charges this way. Here's the incredibly long link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185514469127?hash=item2...

Good luck I THINK the skip button worked on my Aston so I was hoping it would on the Porker. It's the most infuriating thing, I find, about Porsche of this era. The Bose is already a bit crap, and the actual connectivity is bloody woeful. I might investigate a new headunit, but I recall that that was a bit of a pain because of the Bose (thinking back to my 987.1 I had in 2009).

POST 12Original post

I used to use a Y cable with bovee and it worked well. I used Apple Music so not sure about Spotify but albums and playlists showed up and the previous / next buttons worked as you’d expect. I didn’t want to replace the head unit and lose functionality so went down the route of integrating a box that gives wireless CarPlay and android auto to the PCM 3 unit itself. It’s a real game changer. There have been a few posts on here about them but the general idea is you open up the unit, plug in a new circuit board and run a cable to a box you hide in the interior. Once fitted you’d never know it was there and can switch between the standard PCM and CarPlay easily. And use the standard Bluetooth for calls. If you’ve ever built a PC it’s much the same. The one I have and highly recommend is this: https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk/product-page/pcm-3-... Great support too.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now that's very slick indeed - my only issue is I tend to swap cars fairly often, so don't want to spend too much in case I end up in something different next spring...saying that I love the R, so...

POST 14Original post

Might be overkill if you don't hold onto it then! I note that these guys appear to have the Y cable available: https://www.rosepassion.com/en/99761247102-p141157... I looked there yesterday when I saw your post and it was unavailable which is an odd coincidence...

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - that's very odd. Not sure how many of these I want to order at once...I might ping them an email to see if there actually is stock. Design911 initially said there was too.

POST 21Original post

I've a 987.2 and also use one of the bluetooth to aux adapter things that draws power from the usb in the arm rest and plugs into the aux in the armrest. It never needs charging and turns on when I get in the car. It connects automatically within seconds and works fine, albeit a bit quieter than radio etc, phonecalls are still routed through the direct bluetooth connection to the OEM unit so that it seems to work pretty well. Waiting for the PCCM+ to come out for the .2's but I'd imagine its at least a year away still ?

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just to wrap this up I now have two wires as both Swanny and Design911 came through for me. The wire works well with the Bovee and the PCM is now able to control my music and even displays the track name - even when using Spotify so very happy with my investment! Thanks to all for the help, in particular Swanny - nice to see some old skool decency on PH still!

JagYouAre said: That's good news! I've still had no update from design911 and website is still saying back order. Let me know if you are keen to sell one of yours on. The one swanny sent me has a bent pin (he told me in advance) - let me test it and see if it works properly. If it does then you can have that for the same I paid Swanny. Weird that I got a cable and you didn't.

POST 25Original post

Hi AR any joy on the test? Out of interest when did you order yours from Design911, so I can compare and see how far along the queue I might be. Still no update from them. Mine was 6 June (sure I paid extra for what they called next day delivery too )

POST 26Original post

I bought this for my 987.1 and I really can't complain. My iPhone even fits perfectly in the cup holder if I want to use it for nav (the PCM tells me I'm somewhere in the North Sea most of the time which isn't far off but also not helpful). Sound quality is great but it does seem to work better if you have the volume right up on your phone and then adjust on the car rather than the other way round. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-FLOVEME-Transmi...

Mine was 6 June (sure I paid extra for what they called next day delivery too ) Hello mate, sorry been busy and forgot to post my rather sad findings - it didn't work. The Design911 lead worked perfectly, though. I think it's a bent pin but the car won't detect it as an iPod on the PCM menu (whereas it will with the Design911 item, which is Porsche official). Not sure how easy it might be to sort that pin out. More bad news - I ordered from Design911 on 12th June so somehow seemed to jump the queue. Sorry!

POST 28Original post

Ah that's a shame. No way of bending the pin back into position with some tiny pliers? How odd. I have asked Design911 for an update as I've heard nothing for some time now. Maybe they've forgotten about me

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I tried using tweezers to bend it back last night. It snapped off. I'll plug it in again and check one more time.

POST 30Original post

Just to follow up on this, I ended up cancelling my Design911 order as a nice chap from 911uk forum came up with the goods and sold me his, having upgraded his system with one of the CarPlay hacks (which I am very tempted to do myself at some point).

Good news! Yeah, somebody linked above the official Porsche PCM upgrades. Tempting mod when it comes out for 987.2 cars. Though I'm already getting a 991.2 Carrera T itch that I may need to scratch next year.
