Hi all,
when changing heat at high RPM I get a metallic type noise for just a second on engagement of the clutch.
I have recently installed the
numeric shifter
and cables, and was thinking it could be extra cabin noise/ vibration people talk about.
Does anyone else with a
numeric
set up not use anything similar?
Thanks
Simon
The
Numeric cable
and shifter shouldn't emit that type of sound. The noise often reported is when
Numeric cables
transmit a droning harmonic drive-train sound into the cabin. It doesn't happen while shifting. Can you feel anything odd through the shifter when you hear the noise? Possibly an adjustment problem.
Hi, I don’t think it’s a cable alignment issue. The car drives/changes gear lovely.
It’s only when I’m at 6,500 rev and change gear, it also feels like it slips an inch and the grabs.
I’m thinking it could be a clutch/flywheel issue.
Does it happen in every gear? If somehow the replacement cables are affecting the synchronizers in any fashion (say via incomplete clutch disengagement) you need to remedy that ASAP.
Hi,
Yes it happens in gears, only when really pushing on though. It's just a split second when the clutch engages.
That sounds like it could be affecting the synchronizers and wear on those is big bucks to fix.
Did you use the shifter centering tool when you installed the
Numeric cables
? Also, did you use the old cables insulating sheath on the
Numeric cables
? I'm not really clear on the sound you are experiencing. My
Numeric cables
make a mechanical sound when shifting, but it is more like a rifle bolt and is purely an effect of the rigidness (?) of the cables. They are a bit more mechanical almost like shift rods compared to the flimsy stock cables
Hi, I have the shifter assembly as well, so the alignment tool isn’t compatible.
The car changes gear loverly. And have no issues getting into gear. I’m fairly capable with a spanner and confident i have installed them exactly as they should be.
It’s a sound when the clutch engaging. My wife believe it’s in my head. But there is definitely a sound 🤣
it’s almost like a rubbing noise for 0.2 of a second when the clutch plate and flywheel meet.
Maybe not a cable issue then? Your Mrs. is right, but possibly throw out bearing? 200ms is quick
If this happens when you use the clutch pedal, what makes you think it's related to the
numeric shifter
? sounds to me like you're describing slippage.
Hello,
yes. I believe you’re correct and it was slipping. I changed the clutch and flywheel and it made a huge different. Deffo worth The 5 hours it took
