I also bought the PSE 4S tips to be installed from Taiwan for 160, these are actually EXCELLENT quality items, I'm very impressed by the Thais for these.

285s are great and perform perfectly, you can always add spacers to fill the arches...

The second set are actually Turbo, so ET45 offset, bought simply because they're mint and have new Asymetrico N3's on.

As for the 295's, the reason I say this is because I have 2 good 295 30 18 PZero N3's on the turbo wheels, and rather than buying another pair of tyres I would just use these, if I was buying I'd just get the 285's but it seems a waste not to use the 295's if I have them?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I've just joined and posted in the newbie section. I'm the proud owner of a 3.6 996 C4 and so I have a few things I want to do to it and a few questions to ask
Wheels and Tyres, currently the car has 5 spoke Carrera wheels which I'm not too keen on, I have since bought 2 sets of 996 Turbo wheels as I think these are 'the kiddy' on the 996, I really like the look of them. I've read hundreds of posts on 996 wheels and obviously opinions vary. I luckily managed to find myself some genuine 996 narrow body fitments ones, which I haven't found any other sets for sale recently (although I know they come up, they just seem much more rare than the actual wb Turbo wheels), so the offsets are ET50 and ET65. The second set are actually Turbo, so ET45 offset, bought simply because they're mint and have new Asymetrico N3's on. SO, a change to the Turbo wheels will happen soon.....My question here is...has anyone fitted 295 30 18's to their nb 996? I know that a 295 is an acceptable size for a 10" rim, but has anyone found any fouling of the arches with these? (it's only 5mm per side and I thought there was an option for spacers on a nb of 7mm?)
Exhaust: I have the standard 996 exhaust, but I've just bought a modified sports box (as I was too tight to splash out 3k for the Porsche system, now I find I could buy from Porsche Shop for 1500?! not to worry, cost me 600) has anyone used one of these? I bought it from Germany, it's basically the standard exhaust modified to include the bypass pipe that the PSE has installed, but without the option of the switch for quiet mode. Second question, how loud is the PSE in loud mode? I also bought the PSE 4S tips to be installed from Taiwan for 160, these are actually EXCELLENT quality items, I'm very impressed by the Thais for these.
Bumpers: I'm going to upgrade the front bumper to the 4S/Turbo bumper, I have already bought the bumper/lower spoiler and grills and so it needs painting and fitting, (please, no comments about affecting the aerodynamics and handling/stability of the car as Porsche designed it without such bumper :nooo: , I have seen these comments on some forums and quite frankly it amuses me :hand: ). I have also got myself a Turbo rear bumper, and I know these don't fit (yet  ) but has anyone done, or seen info on the best way to do this mod?
I think people may have guessed, and I can see the comments waiting to come in "why didn't you just buy a 4S?" I know I know! I'm basically an idiot and I should have bought a 4S because by the time I do the wheels, bumpers and exhaust the car has cost me 4S money.. :dont know:
Ha, anyway....
295 tyres on a narrow body anyone?
Modded sports exhaust?
4S/Turbo bumper mod on the narrow body C4?
Thanks peeps,
Jon
285 Tyres you can get away with but if you do go 295 you 'll probably have to roll the arches a bit to get a bit fit, but I can't recall many 295 tyres on NB but I'm sure it's been done
Modded exhaust is worth doing, add's more db at idle and low down but sounds much better, not knowing what brand you have, it would be a case of fitting and see, but all PSE's are MOT fine
4S bumpers are designed for wide body's but there are bumper kits specific to the 3.4 which
Design 911 996 3.4 Bumpers
sell.
Thanks Sundeep, My exhaust is an original 3.6 996 exhaust but was modified by a company in Germany and includes the bypass pipe as per the PSE, but without the switchable valve, so it's just permenantly at the switched on position. Suppose I will just have to fit it and see, will update when done (which will be October
)
I looked at the link and their rear bumper is just a modified 4S bumper, and at £1250 I think I'll have a go at modifying the original 4S one myself first, I have seen other rears being sold for about £700 as a direct replacement, but I also know people have done the mod from wb to nb on the bumpers, just wondering if anyone knew of a write up?
Jon
Hi and welcome :thumb:
Turbo front will be fine as this comes as standard on the 40th Anni model. Turbo rear you're going to have a b!tch of a time, the rear quarter panels are wider on a 4S and the bumper made to fit these. You'll have to make some major adjustments to the bumper to get it in line with your narrow body rear panels. It would be easier to sell the one you have and buy a prefabricated 4S 'style' for the narrow body...
As for 295, why? 285s are great and perform perfectly, you can always add spacers to fill the arches... Like you say, 5mm either side is nothing, so why bother :?:
Keep up the modding though, it's an addiction :thumb:
Hi Stuart,
Thanks, the rear bumper could be a PITA but I thought it was worth a shot, supposedly a couple of cuts on the inside corners and some heat and it can be brought into shape, then I can just tidy up with fibreglass and filler. If it doesn't work then nothing ventured and all that....
As for the 295's, the reason I say this is because I have 2 good 295 30 18 PZero N3's on the turbo wheels, and rather than buying another pair of tyres I would just use these, if I was buying I'd just get the 285's but it seems a waste not to use the 295's if I have them? :dont know:
Baptistsan, there are pics in the newbie section I posted earlier
The ET45 Turbo wheels will stick out an extra 33mm compared to the standard ET65 wheels. (
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
). I doubt you will be able to get them to fit.
If they are genuine hollow-spoke Turbos, and you want to get rid of them, drop me a PM.
HI Richard, I have a set of genuine turbo ET45 / ET50 Hollow spokes AND a set of genuine narrow body ET65/ET50 solid spoke Turbo style wheels.
The turbo ones have the 295's on of which I hope to put the tyres on the nb wheels as they're no good.
I probably will get rid of the turbo wheels, which are immaculate, but they'll be without tyres most likely.
Cheers
Jon
