Therefore, if the battery goes flat while the alarm is set, the levers stay locked.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just back from holiday and my battery is dead. Car is a 996 facelift cabriolet. Can,t get into the bonnet or boot as the electronic switches won't work with zero power. AA man is struggling to get in to either replace battery or jump start.
Anybody managed to get access to either battery in the front or jump start post at back?
Take off the fuse panel cover, and just to the right of the spoiler switch you will see a terminal. Pull it out and attach the positive of a jumper battery or charger. Attach the negative to the door lock striker or another good earth. You can then use the buttons to pop the lids.
Hi, just thought I'd check this, as you never know when you'll have a flat battery - and I can't see anything just to the right of the switch? Immediately to the right are the spare fuses?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Darren.
2000 996 Carerra 2 Cab
There is a picture in the manual: Bottom left hand corner is a large rectangular box (30 x 20 mm form memory) with fuses to the right of it
The positive terminal should be the first block in the second row up of fuses - right next to the large rectangular box - and should be red in colour
Thanks, but I'm still confused - as mine doesn't have one??!!! (and there is nothing in the manual). It is a UK model (C16), so thats not it....
UPDATE - Just noticed the post above about 'facelift model' - mine is a 2000, so pre-facelift. So having said that, if the battery goes flat - what are my options?
I have posted pics of my fusebox here:

Any ideas anyone? No immediate issue, but it'd be nice to know !!!
Thanks,
Darren.

.... and as I'm new to Porsches, I have just spent a VERY frustrating hour trying to get the LHS/nearside rear foglight to work, before doing a search here and finding out its not connected !!!!
This is a real mine of info folks - so thanks for taking the time to help a newbie !!
Darren.
Its levers, so, doh, I presume its mechanical anyway?
Also, just found a post re the emergency wire under the rear light (that I wondered "hmm, wonder what thats for" whilst trying to sort out the LHS Rear foglight, that isn't connected on UK cars !!!)
Lesson learnt on both counts - READ THE FORUM !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks anyway !!!
Darren.
The levers themselves actually lock when the system is armed. Therefore, if the battery goes flat while the alarm is set, the levers stay locked. You can get a small screwdriver between the levers and fiddle the lock undone.
On a car with lever locks the emergency cable is in the headlight mounting area on the passenger side on a RHD car. You have to pull off the wheel arch liner to get your hand in there to fish it out. (On a car with electric releases, the cable is on the driver's side).
