Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am getting ready to purcahse a new car. My dilema is do I trade in my everday driver car ('04 Acura TSX) and buy a '05-'06 997 or do I keep my everyday driver and get a '00-'01 996 to drive here and there and on the weekends? One thing to keep in mind is that I drive 80+ miles a day. Thanks in advance for your help.

POST 2Original post

Neither! Sell the TSX and get a 996 for a daily driver. Prices are very reasonable for a used 996 right now. You won't take much of a hit on depreciation over the next couple of years and you will get more enjoyment out of the car as a daily driver. Plus you can use the $$ you save by getting a 996 for mods.

POST 3Original post

80 miles a day in a Porsche is a non issue. I should be so lucky to spend that much time in mine! That said, The change from a TSX to a Porsche will be dramatic. Expect high (and frequent) maintenance costs compared to the Acura Appliance. In addition, expect to replace rear tires every 10-15K miles, under normal conditions. Also, you don't mention if there are other cars in your stable suitable for "family or friends" transportation. If you need to haul more than 1 person, well, a 911 might be a bit small.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I can keep the TSX and still buy a 996. We also have an Expedition to haul everything with so we are covered there.

POST 5Original post

Buy the Porsche you will drive everyday! The value of the 996 now is good and the TSX will likely sit most of the time. Get rid of it, buy the 996, and save some $$$ for the next Porsche (GT3).
