Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, Odd title I know :? I haven't driven my car since last Sunday and when I pressed the 'alarm off' button on the key nothing happened. I assumed that the battery in the key had died so I opened the door with the key. I heard several short beeps from the horn then the alarm went off (obviously the beeps were to warn me to put the key into the ignition asap !!). As I was only putting something into the glovebox I shut the door and it locked with the button on the key. When I actually drove the car about 30 minutes later the battery indicator showed almost 14 amps so everything appears normal. So my question is.......does the alarm system go to sleep ? :sleepy:

POST 2Original post

Yes it does, after 5 days it goes into energy-saving mode, and the remote stops working until it is woken up. It is described in the handbook. On my C2, it said that you have to switch on the ignition within 10 seconds of unlocking the car with the key, to prevent the alarm going off. It always went off as soon as I unlocked it.....

POST 3Original post

I found it related to the direction of the turn on the lock. If I turned my key to the left (anti-clockwise) which "re-locked" it it would reactivate the alarm and allow the button to work, without setting it off. If I turned it to the right where it unlocked the door, the alarm went off until I pushed the button or put the key into the ignition. Others haven't found this but it worked for me.....

Thanks Richard, I had a look in the manual before posting here but couldn't see anything......perhaps the index isn't so comprehensive !!

POST 5Original post

I tried all sorts. Unlocking then locking, but as soon as I turned the key either way, it went off. Fortunately I seldom left the car locked for more than 5 days, so it wasn't a big issue for me.

POST 6Original post

Unlock door with key (without opening the door) - the remote system is woken. Now lock/unlock on plipper. All out of sleep mode and alarm will not sound - open door, get in and drive!

POST 7Original post

Jeff, same on mine, maybe its a 1999 think to "awaken " the car by turning the key anticlockwise, then unlocking with the key fob :dont know:
