Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When should the fan come on?

POST 2Original post

Mr P says: After-running of engine compartment fan If the ignition is switched off and the engine compartment temperature is more than 60°C, the DME control module remains in readiness for another 20 minutes. During this time, the engine compartment temperature is retrieved every 10 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is >85°C, the engine compartment fan is switched on for 20 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is still >85°C after this time, the fan remains on for a further 30 seconds.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Richard I appear to have a problem. I can try a short to check the motor but is the sensor easy to find?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Richard You are Saintly Thanks Right-I'm going in!

POST 6Original post

Richard amazing ability to retrieve "whatever". Any drawings you don't have??? Good man :thumb:

POST 7Original post

He hasn't got that one of you and that sheep. I have. If you want it back, and all the preliminary etchings, you need to leave £2k in a brown paper bag in the dustbin on Platform 11 at Waterloo Station. Next Tuesday, 12:00 noon. Don't be late. :bandit: oh, PS - "I can resist everything but temptation.... " - yeah, don't I know it! :hand:

POST 8Original post

Just because the one of you and the Donkey was out of focus...and then that pineapple :floor: To prevent thread hijack.... my fan has been running regularly after shutting off during the summer, but only for 5-10 minutes. Very rare it comes on while you're on the move. Only if it runs on and on should you be concerned. Next time it happens, pop the hood to cool the bay down quicker, the fan shouldn't stay on for much longer. Seeing as the fan is only dealing with engine bay heat, you may well have an overheat situation rather than a fan problem. What's the temp gauge saying? Good luck squire, hope it's ok

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have never heard my lid fan running so,after a long drive and a hot engine I expected it to run on a while after stopping. Nothing. I found the sensor and warmed it with a hairdryer-nothing. Applied a supply and earth to the fan- fine it runs Put a short across the sensor-fine. I suspect the sensor is u/s. Temp is running at close to 93(digital readout display)

POST 10Original post

If you know an indy who can plug in a Porsche tester, they will be able to read the engine comartment temperature from the sensor. It should show if it is working or not.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
