Has anyone figured out how to get your Cayman early (before January 14th). Mine was built November 7th and I feel like it is just rusting away in a parking lot some where. I sent a nastygram to Porsche with no response and I just got a shrug from my salesman with a comment that there is nothing he can do.
Better give up this idea. See other posts that suggest Porsche is unable to releaseUS cars untilwe reach the emissions certification date. On the positive side, I was at my dealer today to trade in my 911, and he told me that they can use the time before January 14th to install any options you may want. Might be a good time to send the car out for a radar detector, etc.
The dealer will install the radar detector? Is so, how much will they charge?
Nasty grams never get you anywhere anyhow.
What if this certification thing doesn't get completed by January 14th? Does anyone know when the certification is supposed be legal? This is a bummer for those that had early builds. I wonder if this also detains the shipping to the USA. I am going to try to get some answers from my dealer, but if anyone knows anything, please post it.
Thanks Russ
My dealers have always installed them for free. Just ask.

I don't think the dealers will get the cars before the release date. Porsche will hold them at the portbecause once a dealer has to starting paying to floor plan his inventory he will want to deliver the car ASAP and won't wait for some artificial release date.

The Cayman's have EPA mileage stickers on the cars so I assume all testing has been done and approved by the government. My gut tells me that isn't the holdup anymore and this is just a marketing decision by Porsche. My Audi S4 was held up since Audi was contesting the gas guzzler tax when the car was introduced and EPA was supposedly randomly testing cars at the port. When I got my car, I didn’t get a sticker since they weren't printed at the time!
I could be wrong but am still anticipating delivery in late January or early February as promised by my dealer.
If you look at the Cayman window stickers more closely you will see that they exactly match those of a Boxster S in terms of MPG, pollution rating, etc. I think Porsche used the Boxster S stats to just have something to print on while awaiting final word on the testing/certification for the Cayman S. I can't see how the Cayman S will get the exact same gas mileage as the Boxster S given it has a larger engine with more aggressive cams, also the pollutants are bound to be slightly different again an exact match would really surprise me.
I'm not planning on getting my car before January 15th, if it happens, it happens, but I'm not planning on it. Keep watching that counter boys and girls! /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/tounge_smile.gif
Thanks BT & K-Man,
I will be watching the counter. I just wish I knew when that first vessel is supposed to leave Europe. Does anyone know the name of the shipping lines? I heard it pronounced like Pachia or Patiia?
Russ
Some cars are already at Port. They will be held there and shipped to dealers to coincide w/ Launch date of Jan. 14.
There will be no hold ups due to EPA Certs. And there will not be an early release based on a nastygram. In can attest that a nastygram is the worst way to communicate with Porsche. You will get no where and they will remember (document) it. In fact they document every time they communicate with any customer on a one-to-one basis.
The launch date is Jan 14, nothing more to 'worry' about.
