Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Bulb part number = R286 (A standard part number used by all part suppliers)
Leading evidence: 'Use by all part suppliers)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace bulbs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Now you have the hang of things, here's how to get it apart (if necessary) and change the bulbs:

Do what I did and change all the lower 3 to Red ones - part number = R286R (looks the muts nuts..
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Any advice please. The LED on the instrument cluster which shows the time and oil level (segment display) has suddenly gone off. All others are fine. In daylight and looking very closely you can make out the time or oil reading so it is still operating. Is it simply a bulb failure or something more sinister? Thanks.
You are looking at 40p to repair that!!

Or White like I did.
Munchen,
They are actually bulbs if they are original, not LEDs. You will have to remove the cluster to get access to the rear. Bulbs will go in either way round but LEDs have polarity you will have to get the right way around for them to work, so don't replace the cluster until you have got the lights working. :thumb:

Hmm... thinking about it, what I was refering to (R286) is fitted to upto 2002 clusters (Fried egg headlamp style)
Is your car the facelift 3.6LTR 2001 or last of the 3.4LTRs??
I haven't taken apart a later cluster.
TBrown is refering to the LEDs which are stitched into the circuit board where as the 3 lower sections, mph, copmuter, clock etc are lit up by R286 held in by Biege twisted in holders accessed from the rear of the cluster (no need to take apart the cluster)
Sorry should have said console not cluster.
The bulbs can be replaced with LEDs, the three lower ones as Lloyd said and the upper ones but they will have a different part number as they are physically bigger.
