Suggestion

EVOMS AND K&N are very expensive (mainly because they replace STD airbox structure).

Then it would be a doddle to fit (using airbox base means it is already affixed securely to car and snorkel), sealed from warm air, OEM looking and environmentally friendly in the lack of disposal (just y-pipe and airbox lid)

Use oem snorkel and airbox

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not sure which way to go with the induction. Has anyone tried the K&N induction system? Doesn't seem like a bad deal for £300. Have read the posts about the silicon and DIY route, but was wondering if there were any alternatives out there for between £100 and £300? Desired outcome is a better sound, throttle response and if slightly more power then a bonus!! Thanks Lee

POST 2Original post

Consider the following: STD airbox and performance filter VS EVOMS VS K&N induction EVOMS AND K&N are very expensive (mainly because they replace STD airbox structure). Not sure of EVOMS, but K&N required hole drilling in engine bay for install. I am not sure cone filters have any more effective surface area than panel filter (although air flow turbulence may be reduced, due to centripetal air flow) I am not convinced of compartment sealing around EVOMS and K&N (in the sense of warm air leakage into filter volume). STD airbox is at least fully CAI enclosed from snorkel to airbox. (excluding underside water drain grill)

POST 3Original post

I have a full K&N induction kit with the cold air unit which I took out of my Carrera before trading it in for a turbo. Can give you the full details if you want to mail me. Its done about 12k miles. Im sure we can sort something out. The drilling by the way is just one single hole in the engine bay. Nothing really. Noise is lovely and while I dont make any claims for power output (no idea if it does - prob a bit extra) I definitely noticed a much sharper throttle response.

POST 4Original post

EVOMS every time... It does seal, you can feel the rubber seal causing resistance when closing the boot lid making a good contact. It's ££'s more than the K&N but it also isn't a glorified Meccano kit. If you've seen the K&N you'll know what I mean...

POST 5Original post

My thoughts on warm air sealing are based on install photos, so I bow to your actual usage knowledge. As for Meccano, I do know what you mean. I ordered one from a dealer who only had deliveries once a month. In the few dats after I placed the order I downloaded the install "manual". Crikey! Looked like 3 hours of assembly (and not necessarily mm perfect parts) and 10 mins to fit to car. Needless to say (stupid phrase really), the order was promptly cancelled. EVOMS does look a lot more substantial, but it annoyed me that you still dumped a perfectly useable airbox (albeit with reused snorkel). Can't someone make a 3rd party (domed?) airbox lid with cone in place and CAI tube etc. Then it would be a doddle to fit (using airbox base means it is already affixed securely to car and snorkel), sealed from warm air, OEM looking and environmentally friendly in the lack of disposal (just y-pipe and airbox lid)

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies. PM sent regarding K & N. EVOMS looks promising, but cheapest I can find is £430 from Regal, although I suppose you do get quite a lot for your money. With the K&N, how is the RAM air fed to the cone? Design911 saying their CAI pipe won't fit tip.

POST 7Original post

Check out EVOMS on eBay, they come up once in a while. I found one for £185 (ok so it was used, but only 12 montsh old and they can't really wear out channelling air! - worst case get a new cone) I wanted to use OEM snorkel and airbox for the best RAM effect. I have a Cup Aerokit (GT3alike) rear engine lid so the little scoops before the lower spoiler curve forward to force air into air box. A GT2 has even more pronouced scoops with full cowls! On a standard engine lid the "grill" is flush or pointing down/away from air flow AFAIK. (which, due to venturi effect, may actually "suck" air out, or lower air pressure at speed at the grill air intake interface) What you really want is a proper GT3 engine lid (the Cup Aerokit rear deck is designed for standard snorkel arrangement) and this: ... scratch that, what I really want is this: If you can't see it, it the big green thing behind her! God, I love my OPC's new technician uniforms

POST 8Original post

Still can't see how this can seal effectively. Check out the "seal" around the oil filler pipe "aperture"
