Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

First the THANK YOUs...
Thank you to Eric and BumperPlugs for a great deal on a "must do" mod. Shipping was quick and everything arrived perfectly.
Thank you to Arling of Lucent Motors for his professionalism and courteous reply to my asking for a quote to install the kit. When I had no one to help and was going to have a shop do it..Arling stepped up and offered his services and even gave a little discount for a homie. I will definitely call on him for future services...
Thank you for the community...lots of help and encouragement to do this mod.
and finally THANK YOU to Peter aka Daytrader that volunteered his time and home to help a inept newbie install the SSK. When I was asking dumb questions and need install help..he stepped up and PMed me and helped.
all I can say is...what everyone says is true. 110%. The car should of came from the factory like this. INCREDIBLE differences. The shift is not only shorter...but very solid and precise. It is a totally new feeling. I cant say what everyone else already has...this is one of theeeee best mods that if you drive a stick...you NEED TO DO. PERIOD.
ok here are the pics...
BEFORE pic...my interior...
Out comes the shifter..
fresh from the box!
out she comes...
stock shifter
DONE!
Congrats on the mod. It was the first thing I did to my car. Once you pull out the stock shifter unit and comepare it to the new part... the stock one looks so Mickey Mouse.
996CABOVA: by law (I forget the name of it) a modification to your car does not automatically void your factory warranty. It is the burden of the car MANUFACTURER to prove that your modification caused a failure in the vehicle that you are seeking warranty repair on. Then they can refuse warranty, BUT ONLY on the related parts.
Examples:
You put huge wheels on you car and your wheel bearings or ball joints go out. They will not cover the repair because the extra weight and leverage of the large wheels caused the parts to where prematurely.
You put an aftermarket exhaust on your car and they want to refuse to repair your wheel bearings. They cannot do this, they are two unrealted systems, unless they could some how prove that they wheel bearings were affected by the exhaust.
The only thing I could see them having an issue over with the short shift kit is possibly not covering the replacement of transmission synchros due to "faster shifts of the short shift kit" not allowing the synchros to slow the gears down adequately. However this might be a stretch, and easily to fought due to the fact that Porsche it's self sells a short shift kit that is actually just a repackaged B&M short shift system.

PS, if I find the name of the law, I'll edit the post and add it.
I found it. Its called the The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C))
Oh, one more thing. With extended warrantys, all bets are off, the rules for manufactures original warrantys are controled by law, but 3rd party warrantys are whatever is covered in your contract. If the contract reads "any modification will void warranty" then that is enforceable.
yes..for all newbies or people on the fence about it...TOTALLY DO IT.
I swear it feels like a different car...almost video game-ish in a good way? If that makes any sense. The shifts are just like every says...very precise and very solid. Instead of using your whole arm to shift into gear..its flicking the wrist...man...everything people say about it is true. So glad I did it!
also thanks for the kinds words on the interior! I guess I cannot take credit for it..it did come from the factory that way right?
