Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

10 days ago, I became the proud owner of an Arctic silver 996 C4 with a GT3 bodykit. I work abroad and the time is nigh when I have to put my new toy to bed for four months. I previously had a 24 year old 944 Turbo and all I used to do was disconnect the battery and keep the handbrake released. On my return, the 944 used to turn over and start first time! Should I adopt the same pre-hybernation procedure with the more complex 996?? Needless to say, the 996 will be in my garage and under a cover...my wife's new car stays on the driveway!!!!

POST 2Original post

4 months is a relatively long period to have the car sleeping : lol: . Disconnecting the battery is an option but if your wife or someone else is around why you do not ask her to switch it on at least for few minutes. A trickle charger might keep the battery going at the same time. By switching it on for 5-10 minutes or so you will allow the oil to circulate a bit and keep all parts lubricated. And by the way when I have a car in hypernation I always make sure I have fresh engine oil in it.... Theo

POST 3Original post

I go away for 5 or 6 weeks at a time and use a trickle charger (ctek) and handbrake off. That should be enough to see it right till I get back and was fine for every other car I've had before that.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry for such a stupid question but, does a trickle charger remain all for the duration that I'm away?? :?:

POST 5Original post

Yes, it just keep the battery topped up and in good health. Cheers, Phil

POST 6Original post

As the car will be in the garage you should have no problem either powering it or keeping it on all the time.... That is keeping the battery going...

POST 7Original post

not sure if it will work as when i disconnect my battery the back up alarm starts going off!! unless there is a sequence to remove the lead ?

POST 8Original post

I dont mind looking after your car for whilst youre away!

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

:?: Is the trickle charger connected to the battery whilst the battery is still connected to the car??? :?:
