Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello, I'm going to replace the water pump on my 05 Boxster S soon and wanted to get input on whether to go with the OEM composite impellar or the after-market brass. What's the general consensus? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I believe in OEM almost always. One exception is the stoptech brake upgrades I applied to my Ford, that's different and they made a huge difference on a vehicle with rear drums. Know this, I had a water pump with a composite impeller on the Ford, exposed to sub zero to 95 Fahrenheit over ten years of usage, and the composite impeller was as new, not a scratch or any wear. After seeing that I would certainly use Porsche 's pump on my car, just my two cents.

POST 3Original post

My understanding is the composite impeller is better in case for any reason the shaft gets a wobble and the impeller hits the side of the engine the composite impeller will break apart, but the brass impeller will gouge the housing.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
