Driving my 996 c4s home today when at about 5000 rpm a sort of sound like a coke can being opened appeared with a formula one type engine cloud from the rear appeared, dipped the clutch stopped checked everything, smoke continuing to come from the nearside exhaust, however engine running sweet with no knocks or rattles and oil and water ok, drove slowly home twenty miles or so and no smoke or any sign of anything wrong at all.

Driving my 996 c4s home today when at about 5000 rpm a sort of sound like a coke can being opened appeared with a formula one type engine cloud from the rear appeared, dipped the clutch stopped checked everything, smoke continuing to come from the nearside exhaust, however engine running sweet with no knocks or rattles and oil and water ok, drove slowly home twenty miles or so and no smoke or any sign of anything wrong at all. Took it to my Indie who hitched up the computer and this also showed no sign of any faults, his advce monitor and keep an ear open especially when I start it up from cold for the first time. Does any one know what could have happened as it is so worrying, and confidence draining, it has covered 26k since new, with no previous engine problems to my knowledge, many thanks in advance, it might be nothing at all connected but I have had a squeaking noise when moving off, its similair to a brake pad squealing, also the noise I heard was more like pinking, also just started up again and seems very rich I think the smoke was white not blue.
