I used Silicone on mine, made a hell of a racket about 115 on mine, now silent up to 145

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hello i am a porsche newbie, having just bought my first 996 C2, this seems to have a small fault and i dont know if i can fx it myself and if so how? the seal (outer strip) on the windscreen on the drivers side next to the A pillar is loose and is creating alot of wind noise when driving and i presume is not waterproof. i have read about similar faults on 993s but cannot work out if the solution is teflon tape or as another recomended superglue The seal is coming away from the windscreen glass edge, is it supposed to be stuck tothe glass or the body of the car or both? any advise or recomendations of who to speak to would be apreciated i am based in west london cheers tim (also posted in 993 section by mistake sorry)

POST 2Original post

:welcome: Early 996s suffered from this, and there is a technical service bulletin which shows how to fix it. It involves stuffing a rubber cord between the seal and screen to hold the outer seal in position properly. If you would like a copy, drop me a PM with your email address, and I'll send it.

POST 3Original post

Richard, does this apply to the rear screen as well? Mine is lifted on the top offside corner and i was thinking of using some black silicon to seal it back down.

POST 4Original post

Yes, it does apply to the rear screen. Silicone works, and that's what some people do, but it's a bu99er to get off if you need to take the seal off in the future.

POST 5Original post

I used Silicone on mine, made a hell of a racket about 115 on mine, now silent up to 145

POST 6Original post

Hi, I have this problem also, Any chance you can send me a copy of this fix please. Regards Simon.
