Despite several sections showing this drain plug being removed, they never mention it being installed (despite it being obvious it was replaced) and give no torque spec that I can find.

Suggestion

Factory info shows the coolant drain as using a "gasket" - which is actually an O-ring.

Suggestion

If it's not plastic - then I'd determine the size/grade of the bolts and use standard torque values for that size/grade bolt (Google for it..) I'd still be inclined to use some Loctite on them.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I’m new here so not sure if this post is OK. Have a 2011 987.2 Cayman base. Looking for makeup torque for the three screws that attach the belt pulley to the water pump. Also looking for proper torque for coolant drain plug. I have posted on three other sites but no responses.

POST 2Original post

Hello Chip, These are the only water pump related torque settings the factory manual provides: Questions: Are you reusing the old water pump pulley? Many replacement ones come with a new pully. If you're reusing the old one - I believe it's plastic and in lieu of torque specs, I'd tighten them snuggly after putting some LocTite BLUE on the threads, then let it sit overnight. If it's not plastic - then I'd determine the size/grade of the bolts and use standard torque values for that size/grade bolt (Google for it..) I'd still be inclined to use some Loctite on them. The 987.2 motors aren't known for losing water pumps very frequently - so chances are it's the original one that's on there. Factory info shows the coolant drain as using a "gasket" - which is actually an O-ring. I'd strongly suggest replacing the O-ring. Despite several sections showing this drain plug being removed, they never mention it being installed (despite it being obvious it was replaced) and give no torque spec that I can find. Since an O-ring is used - the following that Google found at Pelican might be useful: The coolant seal isn't made by compressing the drain plug against the engine block, it's made by the O-ring. All the torque has to do is prevent the plug from untreading and falling out. There were a number of other returns from my Google search - but a lot of it looked like guesswork on some forums. The ones that did look like there was something behind the postings - mostly gave the values Pelican gives. Good luck, let us know how it turns out. HTH BTW - I'm moving this thread to the correct subforum for it - it fits under DIY/repairs..
