I would get the door lock actuator checked first - its a common failure point for these cars esp.

If I run cool water for a minute by the exterior door handle or park the car in the shade for a bit the door opens up fine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I just purchased an 07 Cayman S with a known issue of the passenger door will not open when it is hot outside, now hot is a relative temperature as the car is only sitting in the sun with temps in the 70's, but the passenger door will not open. The window drops but I can't open it from the inside or outside. If I run cool water for a minute by the exterior door handle or park the car in the shade for a bit the door opens up fine. Any idea of what it could it be? Door lock actuator?

POST 2Original post

Not much to go on, but I believe there are at least five microswitches in each door controlling the window drop, sensing whether the door is open or closed, alarmed or not, etc. And these switches have an incredibly small travel when they make or break. Could be expanding metal from the heat is exerting force on one of the switches leading the ECU to think the car is locked. Cooling the door gives it just enough contraction to enable the switch to work properly. It’s a stretch, but worth a look.

POST 3Original post

Appreciate the feedback! I will look into these microswitches.

POST 4Original post

I would get the door lock actuator checked first - its a common failure point for these cars esp. >10 years old.
