There is a way to adjust the height (affecting light beam - But I suggest leaving that as is)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi - hope you can help I have a problem with one of the headlights on my 996 in that I can get it out but it won't lock back in. As a bit of background, I had a new wing installed a while back and I think they bodged installing the tray that holds the headlight unit in place. I think I need to adjust (bring forward) the tray, but its not obvious how to undo the mounting points. Any ideas appreciated. Many thanks Ed PS I can competently get the headlight unit in the other wing in/out so its not operator error !

POST 2Original post

with the headlight out look at how the bar rotates, the bar that retains and releases the headlamp, if you insert the tool into the inner wing and rotate it you'll see it moving, comp[are it to the other side if the 'resistance' has gone then you need a new support tray which is about £40-45

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mark Its a new tray. I have the headlight out. Do you know how to adjust the mounting brackets for the tray ? These are fixed to inside of the wing. Cheers Ed

POST 4Original post

I had the same issue previously, The head had worned away after years of use. If you have a new tray, make sure you also get the washers and a new "metal rod". Its a bit fiddly but with a bit of WD45, you can get it all off. Where about are you based?

POST 5Original post

To add- The tray fits in as is. There is a way to adjust the height (affecting light beam - But I suggest leaving that as is)
