Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Does anybody know how to open the rear lid if the remote release doesn't work? I can hear the motor actuating, but the lid doesn't pop open. I see in the Service Manual that there's a cable - has anybody tried to release their rear lid manually?

POST 2Original post

Never mind. There may be a better way, but the following procedure works if there isn't any stuff in the rear cargo area that can't be removed... 1. Slither from the passenger compartment aft until you can reach the black plastic panels that cover the taillights. Give the knob on each a half turn, and remove the panels. 2. Grab the piece of carpet that's on the aft wall of the rear luggage compartment on the bottom edge at the sides. Pull the bottom edge forward. Pull the carpet piece down and out from under the plastic trim. Remove the carpet piece. 3. You'll see a small silver cable running to the left side of the car from the latch area. Pull the cable and the latch will pop. This cable obviously goes somewhere so that it can be pulled from outside the car. I'll try to find it and post the result tomorrow.

POST 3Original post

The end (which has a loop) of the manual emergency release cable for the hatch is inside the left rear fender liner. Remove the left rear wheel, remove the fender liner & you should find it. It's the same setup as the manual emergency cable for the trunk hidden inside the left front fender liner.

POST 4Original post

Both sound more difficult than necessary. The rear hatch release cable was accessed by removing the left side tail light lens on my previous Porsche .

POST 5Original post

I'm curious to know why it has failed to open . . . let us know what you find.

POST 6Original post

You can only remove the taillight from inside the rear trunk! The "crawl in the back" procedure was pretty easy - it took about 2 minutes. Much faster than removing the wheel.

POST 8Original post

Thanks to all, these are good things to know....

POST 9Original post

The problem was: there should be a tiny clip that holds both the primary and emergency release cables onto the latch. The clip on my car was gone. I thought it might have fallen off, but I couldn't find it anywhere. It was easy to replace the clip.
