I have loosened and replaced the r/h exhaust in preparation for the install this took some doing.Bolt material quality is very poor, dear Porsche.

Suggestion

I thought about using 3/4" to make it quieter, but he quite rightly pointed out that reducing diameter has a larger effect on volume (remember your maths!) and therefore volume.

Suggestion

It's good to see the engineer didn't want any unnecessary exhaust gas leakage by using copious amounts of PTFE thread tape.....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Readers of my posts and replies will know I am not a lover of noise. ld: However I have a plan. I have collected some of the materials to create a tunable muffler bypass exhaust system. Here's the outline of the plan: Replacement mufflers have been purchased to allow the project to develop without losing valuable Porsche time. I am going to weld in a link pipe from the inlet to the oulet as per most other systems(see photo) with the addition of 2 x motorised exhaust cutout valves into the bypass tube powered via a STD PSE in dash switch which seem cheap and readily available. This will give a control of volume and bypass gasses and still exiting via the tail pipe. A few questions if any one can help What specific grade is the stainless muffler made from? How does a PSE switch function Is it an on/off affair or a progressive switch? Which blank socket does the switch fit to in the dash. It is likely that I will have the valves shut all the time or I will have to eat my words and opolgise to many people on here for my comments on noise but I will be safe in the knowledge that "I could if I wanted to". I'll keep you all posted if there is anyone interested.

POST 2Original post

I think Richard H told me that the bypass pipe is c.1" in diameter. I thought about using 3/4" to make it quieter, but he quite rightly pointed out that reducing diameter has a larger effect on volume (remember your maths!) and therefore volume. If you do a search on here for "stainless steel" you should find the thread where people like Lloyd and Richard suggest a suitable grade of stainless steel to use. Good luck - good idea.

POST 3Original post

As I understand, the switch can be mounted on either side of the central instrument cluster, as there are two switches made - left hand side or right hand side mounting. This is how the original Eisenmann PSE 996 mufllers are constructed, certainly different to the ones posted at the beginning of this thread. These sound pretty damn good.... As I'm sure Bubbles will vouch for.

POST 5Original post

Update: Purchased so far: 2 x 2" electric custom made bypass valves Porsche window switch (control source) 2x electric relays S/S 6mm mig wire(now not required) 2 x replacement c4 back boxes 2 x sleeve couplings 53mm o/d 2 x tailpipe to muffler clamps. 12- 35m x8 s/s studs( some for cat to manifolds) 2x manifold to cat gaskets. 2x exhaust manifold to head gaskets. 4x 5m adaptor flanges (await delivery) Still looking for suitable s/s pipe 53m od with 1.5 wall Engaged: Tig welder and his set (my place) I have loosened and replaced the r/h exhaust in preparation for the install this took some doing.Bolt material quality is very poor, dear Porsche. Simulated the valve position which fits snug but some room for manoeuvre and far enough away from excessive heat sources. The bypass loop will pass from intake to outlet at a full bore of 50mm not via the PSE part muffled section the valves are fully controllable so all ranges will be achievable. :bye: for now.
