I think another few months of this and the prices will likely be near the 25k mark for a nice 996 turbo and less than 20k for a more used example.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Look at what this 996 turbo sold for at auction https://www.proxibid.com/Collector-Cars/2003-Porsche-911-996-Turbo/lotInformation/53250910 I think another few months of this and the prices will likely be near the 25k mark for a nice 996 turbo and less than 20k for a more used example.

POST 2Original post

Unremarkable colour though, ruffled leather and non sport seats...£32k sounds about right.

POST 3Original post

Even before CV19 £32k was a good price to achieve in the recent market. I really hope that your 'prediction' is over-stated. Nobody knows what post CV19 will do to values but if 996 Turbo values slip to £20k-£25k I hate to think what will happen to 996 and 997 Carreras. Back in 2013 when values of all 996 variants were at rock bottom the 997 Carreras were 7 years newer so were still depreciating naturally. A blip such as this would have a far greater effect.

POST 4Original post

Who cares what happens to prices, if all 911's drop like a stone we'll all drive them more (when we are allowed) instead of getting all girls blousy about values. That has to be a good thing, 911's are built to be driven and enjoyed, not left at home.

POST 5Original post

I suspect a global recession, if this takes place, will drive down the price of most luxuries, including premium/sports cars (BMW M cars etc)..... But its all relative, if you are a cash buyer, you might get something cheaper, but if you are financing (and interest rates climb), its possible you will end up paying back more in the long-run.... Azmontana, I think you are still looking for a Turbo to buy - so you may benefit from a price drop (if there is one). But you may also find that a lot of the quality cars just aren't put on the market. So you may end up with a poorer choice....

POST 6Original post

Couldn't agree more, only folks worried will be those that bought when high and now need to sell. If you don't need to sell prices are pretty much irrelevant IMO. I know a few folks that have certain cars that are always going on about how much they would be if they sold but then say they will never sell, why does it matter what they are apparently worth then. Its good if you were looking to buy, Id love to be in that situation as I reckon there will be some bargains coming up for sale in the near future.

POST 7Original post

..... sadly I was just going to use my garage-time to change my brake line over the gearbox....

POST 8Original post

Also worth noting that there is a circa 10% buyers premium to be paid. Not sure if that was already included in the sold price but if it wasn't the price paid would be more like £35k, which sounds very average and certainly not cheap.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How is black an unremarkable colour? Its the best colour to have in a 996 and not as common as silver etc. £32k for a low mileage and what seems like a well cared for car is pretty good from what I've seen so far.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am and I'm hoping to get a good deal so just waiting for all of the dust to settle and see what happens.

POST 11Original post

It appears that the auction car was probably bought for c£36k including fees which would make it a better buy than any similar car currently on AutoTrader. However this is only what you would expect from an auction buy. I think it would take one hell of a recession to bring its value down to the £25k you intimated. Sensible mileage, manual cars will always be desirable.

POST 12Original post

I'm watching air cooled prices closely. Yes I'd lose on the 996 but its all relative. That said the longer I own my 996 and the more it is fettled, the better it becomes as a long term proposition! It is virtually rust free for a start! Ian

POST 13Original post

It was an internet auction so I wonder if the buyer actually saw and drove the car?

POST 14Original post

Hi With governments everywhere printing money and interest rates going -ve I would bet on further asset inflation not deflation. Yes there may be a downward blip first. Berni

POST 15Original post

Prices on most vehicles will be coming down, specialist dealers are stuck with stock, owners of prestigious models will be waiting to see if things improve as has been suggested, you might not get the pick of the crop, and with prices on other models also coming down it will force prices in the short term down even further as people start to look further up the ladder for what's available for similar money. If I were buying now I'd be looking at a specialist, finding the exact car I wanted and bidding them in the balls, that's the price I'm offering now, don't come back in a month trying to sweeten the deal as it'll have gone down further. 3 weeks ago I'd sold my car that I didn't even have for sale...... I'd eyed up a 991 GTS in Orange, I didn't chase that car up because of an annoying ad in on the description which I hate and now my mate has backed out due to the current situation, which I don't mind as I quite like mine and the £40k price difference has saved me making a mistake.... Choose wisely, but this is not done yet so take your time and try not to jump in too quick.
