Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
As a minimum, replace the hard brake pipe that goes over the engine/box and the AOS plus maybe the Y cable to the starter if it's showing corrosion.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
Just got my car back from storage yesterday, went into the garage this morning and noticed a pool of coolant on the floor :?
After some investigation I found that an aluminium coolant pipe is leaking. It is located on the right hand side of the engine (looking from the back) and appears to run from the engine (via a rubber hose) down the right hand-side to another hose at the far side of the gearbox heading towards the front. Not sure if it's going to or coming from the radiator but it appears to have been rubbing against the chassis leg and holed!
Has anyone had any experience with this? is it an engine out job? the pipe alone is £272.... :nooo:
cheers
I was hiding and trying not to be the one giving the bad news .

When you add those to the other pipes you would replace at the same time then its not cheap.
I have pictures i can post of said job if you want to have a look but basically ..
Im giving bad news .. i hate my job at times
No worries deMort I really appreciate you replying.
Bad news...!! expect the worst and hope for the best and all that
Unfortunately prior to putting my car into storage for a year 1/2 (due to house renovation) I had both radiators, LTT, two new coolant pipes (front) new AC condensers, and filter done...400 miles since....££!!
So to get it back and this happening I a bit of a blow....but I suppose in the present climate could be an awful lot worse.....it's only a car!!
Can I ask you (or anyone else) when I get this done what else should I do while the engine is dropped?
If you could send me some pic's, would be much appreciated
thanks again
Has it got both coil pack heat shields in place? The bolts are known to shear off. Easy to sort with engine out. Coolant header tanks are a pig to do with the engine in.
Good call on brake pipe and AOS.
Ian
Thanks for the advice guy's, I'm going into my local Indie to have a word with him and will mention to him about replacing - brake pipe, AOS, Y cable and have a look at the heat shields.
What about the gearbox mount, is this a job when the engines out?
cheers :thumb:
Thanks deMort, that's the pipes they look longer in the picks!?

thanks, top man :thumb:
With chrome if you right click on the image then open in a new tab you will get a much larger image .
This is images of the last 2 996 i've had the engine out of ..
Both main coolant pipes .. the small bleeder pipe running to the coolant bottle and the o/s/r brake pipe are what i would suggest .
Then we move onto AOS .. if not previously done .. sorry but it should be ..
Waxoil of everything whilst its dropped .. check the wiring grommet o/s .. it tends to be a bit rusty .
Replace clips with jubilee ones .. the original ones have often lost most of their clamping force .
Now you see why i hid and didn't want to give the bad news .. sorry young man .. it always adds up when you have the engine out .
I assume its definitely the main coolant pipe .. no chance of a sleeve or a cut / join ?
Both of the above are 996 but camera angles might make it seem longer i guess .
It is definitely the main coolant pipe (unfortunately) and I have the car booked in for the 18th to have the work done.(if they are back to a full work force)
When they drop the engine I will go in and discuss where we go with the extra jobs to be done and will take on board the above.
I see what you mean regarding the cost...it's going to be big...!!
Thanks for the... young man...Never been called that for a long long time, certainly cheered me up.

Think I'm ok with it MC thanks, leaving it to the guy's at the garage...trying not to think about it since I got a quote for the work
Read you project topic/posts from start to finish at the weekend. pretty awesome...and love the colour :thumb:
Cheers.
