So before I unwillingly change my plans of using the original type bearing I will try to find the same snap ring as Porsche used.

I have a new bearing identical to the original and I did plan to use the original snap ring, but it broke.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been asking the local bearing industry about a suitable snap ring for the original NSK 5204 dual row bearing fitted to early 3.4's. No one seem to have a suitable round wire ring as the bearing usually is fitted with a flat wire. In my town the experts aren't that helpful and the Internet stores probably get too many questions to look deeper into every single one.
So if someone know the exact dimensions or even DIN number for the snap ring it would be helpful.
Oh sorry Alex, I didn't get a notification. I can't reuse the snap ring as it broke when I removed the bearing. And as it broke off a bit I can't measure the length or the inner diameter. I know the wire diameter is 1 mm but nothing else.
I have a new bearing identical to the original and I did plan to use the original snap ring, but it broke. So before I unwillingly change my plans of using the original type bearing I will try to find the same snap ring as Porsche used. But it looks like the snap ring is harder to find than the bearing itself.
Yes, I have and all of them said the same thing. That retainer is a special order and no one knew how to get one.
So I came up with the idea to contact one garage who specialises in Porsches and they had all the IMS bearings that they have removed from cars in a drawer. They will send me some rings in good condition.. So I guess problem solved!
My mistake, didn't realise there wasn't.
Is this what you want?
I just googled ims snap ring and this was top of the list - £4+VAT

Thanks, but the wire is too wide. Can't be more than 1 mm wide and that one is over 2 mm. The bearing retailers say that they have never seen such a thin wire snap ring for such a large bearing so it must be a special order.
That groove is covered by the dual row bearing as the groove matches the groove in the outer race of the bearing.
Edit: At least that is how I interpret my own photos from before removing the bearing. But I could be wrong
