Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

After unlocking my 2006 Cayman with my key, the alarm started blaring. Out of blind hope, I put the key in the ignition and it stopped. I looked into the manual for a way to disable the alarm permanently, but found nothing but this: Unlocking the vehicle by using the key in the door lock and opening the door may activate the alarm system within 10 seconds. This makes very little sense to me. I'd like to use the key fob to lock the car, but I don't ever want to arm or hear the alarm ever again. Is there any way to disable this thing? Happy to rip it out of the car.

POST 2Original post

It's a protection against the gar getting blackjacked or otherwise nefariously mechanically unlocked. And yeah, very annoying. I set the alarm of my 986S off more than once before I replaced the wonky keyfob...

POST 3Original post

whats the real issue? is it the alarm beep or do you not like button access/prefer using the actual key to lock/unlock?

POST 4Original post

I don't want the alarm to go off when I forget to use the fob and just use the key. I never want the alarm to go off, ever. Car alarms are a scourge, and offer very little actual protection or prevention.

POST 5Original post

Yes, I too discovered this issue when I bought my 06 was delivered. Having used a key "forever", I started to use the key only to find out keys were obsolete. They scratch up the paint near the lock and the cars were never really meant to use the key to open the door. They key is for emergency use only. It took a while to get used to this new way of opening car doors. Its more annoying you cant get a simple metal key cut. I don't think the real issue is the alarm but the immobolizer. No one really cares about the alarm, but its the immobilizer part that keeps the cars from being stolen. Very, very few, like numbers in single digits, Porsches are stolen unless the owner leaves the keys in the car. Ask your dealer. They should know. Maybe they can just disconnect some wire.
