I'd like to mount my antenna to the wiper bezel area as discussed in another thread. Just wonder what is the easiest way to get the wire back through to the interior from there?
Thanks
Why not just use some double side tape, and put it up on the dash a few inches from the windshield near one of the front corners where the dash speakers are. Leave it inside the car. Reception will be the same, no wiring problems, and no antenna or wires outside the car. Just make sure it is not actually touching the windshield as when you go over bumps and it flexes it will make a rattle noise if it is touching.
I'm assuming its basically the same as with an after-market GPS antenna. After removing some of the plastic covers in the frunk, you'll see some rubber plugs and/or grommets that go through the firewall. just drill a hole in one big enough to poke the connector through. When you are all finished with your installation, fill any extra space with silicone caulk before you button it all back up.
BTW, for my GPS, I attached the magnetic antenna base to the wiper motor - which is just underneath the black plastic cowling. Or you could just use any metal under the plastic. I'm not sure if XM is more sensitive (requiring unobstructed line-of-sight), in that case you might need the antenna above the plastic. However, it is recommended that satellite antennas be attached to a flat metal plane to increase the signal strength (I guess it bounces off the metal?). Keep some extra wire bundled outside so you can move the antenna later.
It's easy to poke though the large grommet behind the battery. My XM antenna is mounted on the surface of the plastic trim at he base of the windshield. No issues with reception
Bringing another old thread back to life! I've read four threads dealing with running the wiring for a satellite antenna from the frunk to the interior of the car (987.1 CS). All sorts of people far more knowledgable than me described with ease how to run the wire through a grommet just behind the battery. This thread mentions drilling a hole through the grommet, something I don't feel comfortable doing. Another thread talked about running the satellite wire through a grommet on the passenger side of the car. And another thread described a rather complicated way to run the wire through the center console, around this, through that, behind that thingy, then between those two things. Needless to say, with my limited knowledge I was lost after the first right turn. And, likely since all the threads were pretty old, there were no photos to visually show where these wires were going.
Sooooo...
Could someone explain it to me like I'm a six-year-old how to get a satellite antenna wire from the frunk to the interior of the car without having to drill holes, please? Because I'm a visual person, any photos showing the route would be deeply and greatly appreciated.
How is it possible to run this plug from the frunk, through the firewall, and to the interior?
