I'm installing the Dension Gateway 500 Lite MOST this weekend and after searching these helpful forums I THINK I have the answer to my question but I want to be sure. So here goes: I have a CD changer and have ZERO desire to use it. I don't even own a CD anymore. I can unhook the optical plug from the changer and plug it into the Dension unit, correct? I could also use the power from the changer to power the Dension, right?
Seems that if the above assumptions are true this could be very very simple. I'll just have to figure out how to run the USB cables through to the cabin. If its not true then, well, I'll uninstall the head unit and all that garbage.
In case someone in the future searches this type of question I'll answer my own post here. There's lots of info out there for searching but sometimes its not all in one place.
I was able to unplug the optical connector from the CD changer and plug it directly into the Dension Gateway 500 Lite, didn't even need the optical connector that came with the Dension unit.
I discovered that there are two constant 12v wires plugged into the CD changer. I used the brown and green one as 12v non-switched power for the Dension.
I mounted my Dension unit in place of the CD changer (I took that thing all the way out). I drilled a hole in the double thickness grommet just behind where the CD changer was and ran the lightening adapter wire through the grommet and sealed it back up with silicone. I then ran that behind the battery and hooked in a 6' lightening cable, which I then routed through the unused grommet that is behind the battery closest to the drivers side (had to remove the battery hold down on the passenger side if the battery to slide the battery over far enough to access the grommet). I cut a hole in the grommet and used a coat hanger to route the wire through, then I sealed that up as well.
I then ran the wire across to the passenger side and up behind the sub-woofer. It comes out right next to the little cubby, and since that's where I'll be mounting my phone charger its perfect. I didn't want to drill holes in the console or anything so this worked perfectly for me.
