A new beam is circa £500 used so I'm loathed you buy one if not needed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No not those highly dubious kits you could buy in the 80's to make your Capri look like a drag car but actually jacking the car up! I have a unit with a four post lift in and a jacking beam. Trouble is the jacking beam is ancient and not a double extender so it doesn't reach the jacking points. I'm used to lifting stuff up but so much of the car is aluminium it's a nightmare! Anyway I jacked the back up off the rear subframe where it mounts to the body with a 40mm rubber pad in place today and all seemed fine and I'm thinking of jacking the front where that subframe is mounted. Anyone with any experience of this recommend I'm ok doing this or suggest any better place to Jack? A new beam is circa £500 used so I'm loathed you buy one if not needed.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here's a shot of where I had it.

POST 3Original post

I found this article helpful in jacking car up in areas other than the official jacking points when putting car on stands. There are a couple of reinforced areas on front which can be used. I jack it up there with hockey pucks. That said I've not left it supported on those areas for any time as my objective is to utilise the jack points for stands. https://www.pelicanparts.com/techar..._Up_Your_Car/01-BASIC-Jacking_Up_Your_Car.htm

Excellent, that's what I've done. I also use jack pads/blocks and for longer term work onto axle stands
