I've recently bought a 996 c4s , I noticed that the oil level indicator has droped one bar from the top I've done about 300 miles since picking g it up , I checked the dipstick which is showing full ,but noticed the oil cap smells a bit of petrol ,any ideas ,should I be worried?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

As long as your oil level is not increasing, I would consider this normal. I don't believe there is a spot on the engine where oil and petrol could mix like VW diesel tandem pumps, for example. Unless your piston rings are totally shot or you have extensive bore scoring and maybe combined with a leaking injector.

POST 3Original post

I think it's probably just a strong smell of oil/vapor from the filler tube? Its not a pleasant smell.
