Suggestion

However disconnecting & re-connecting the battery forces it to go into 'learn-mode' - I'm not sure if the same is true for a 993; however it's probably a quick enough test short of booking it in for diagnostics?

Although apparently that's not possible - I queried how to reset a 993 ecu about a year ago here on PH), was told I should buy a durametric tester.

The car will learn the higher grade fuel, but over a period of time, if you'd prefer to have the adaptions reset so it'll expect the best fuel and perform accordingly then get yourself to somewhere with full Porsche diagnostics.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Currently in Italy with my 993 and the vast majority of petrol stations only have 95RON fuel. When I get back to civilisation ( ) and have 98 available, do I need to do any kind of ECU reset or similar so the engine can get the full benefit of 98 again? I ask as I seem to recall that for 996s an ecu reset was required in order for the engine to make full us of the good stuff as it would not "unlearn"....

POST 2Original post

Ta. What period of time are we talking about? 1 tank? 5 tanks? 1k miles?

POST 4Original post

There's something a bit odd you can do with a 996 to "unlearn" the ECU. I think this involves turning the ignition on for 20 seconds but not firing up the engine. I swear I have not imagined this...

POST 6Original post

A 964 will retart the ignition on lower fuel grades, it then takes a long time for that to reset. However disconnecting & re-connecting the battery forces it to go into 'learn-mode' - I'm not sure if the same is true for a 993; however it's probably a quick enough test short of booking it in for diagnostics?
