Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

From the other posts here my understanding is that I need to replace the headunit and the speakers (and wiring) to do this (leaving the BOSE amp in place as a dummy load for the optical wiring).

Suggestion

The AVIC really isn't set up to run a "surround sound" speaker system like the Bose, so you don't need all the nine speakers kicking.

Suggestion

The internal amps in the AVIC would only allow you to run front mid-range + tweeters on a crossover and rear mid-range speakers; but the internal amps definitely won't be much of a step-up from the Bose.

Suggestion

If you're looking for better sound than the Bose, then you want at least a 5 channel amp made by Infinity/JBL or one from JL audio to run rear mid-ranges, front mid-ranges + tweeters, and a subwoofer.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I just got my new CS yesterday and to no surprise quickly realized that the BOSE system sucks. I did the subwoofer mod which helped the low end some but the midrange is still terrible, very muddy. I'm seriosly considering upgrading to a Pioneer AVIC unit to get the nav and bluetooth functionality too. From the other posts here my understanding is that I need to replace the headunit and the speakers (and wiring) to do this (leaving the BOSE amp in place as a dummy load for the optical wiring). The AVIC only has a 4-channel amp while the BOSE system has 9 or so speakers. For you who have done the AVIC mod, what speakers did you replace? How did you configure that? Did you add an external amp in addition to the ones in the HU? How would you rate the built-in amps in the AVIC? I still can't belive how they engineer everything else so carefully and then throw in a Radio-Shack quality sound system

POST 2Original post

I have the AVIC-D3 in my truck but not my CS. As far as the AVIC amps, I would only use them for perhaps a rear channel, if that. I have two McIntosh amps pushing my speaker set up in the truck.

POST 3Original post
