In the fact I think the Golf GTi we swapped for our current car was at the lowest for a long time at 115,000 when it went.

My 997 GTS is about to trip over 63k, which is high mileage compared to previous modern Porsches I've had. It drives like new and is probably the best car I have ever owned.
I am sure there are others here with far higher numbers...
I did 107,000 in a 996 turbo (technically it was on 65,000 when I bought it). It was a good car and never broke down, I had a few big bill that were age related such as rads/condensors, one turbo, water pump and all 4 discs and pads. I reckon over the 4 years I had it, it cost less to run than my wife's focus st (factoring in desperation on my car). I had to sell due to pressure from the Mrs to get a more useful family car, so I part-exed it against an e92 m3 but wish I still had the Porsche.
Recently sold my 944 after 214,000 miles, bought at 180,000 miles. Got my money back on what was probably the cheapest car I have ever owned.
1987 911 is at about 115,000.
Boxster is barely run in at 49,000 which I don’t consider high mileage.
Our everyday cars have gone to at least 120,000 before being changed. In the fact I think the Golf GTi we swapped for our current car was at the lowest for a long time at 115,000 when it went. The new one was only 18 months old when we got it so it will be a while before it catches up
salesman thought we were mad when I said I would see him in 10 years

157k miles 997.1 GT3 Clubsport. Original engine and box. Engine has about 1% leakdown on each cylinder. Some valve guide wear. 1 clutch. Unsure about how much suspension refreshing has happened. The LSD doesn't do much limiting any more. Running KW clubsports atm, but going back to the original PASM dampers after a damper service.

That is awesome. Lovely colour
I’ve taken my 986S from 28000 to 181000 miles. Engine was replaced at 71k due to IMS failure. It’s also had gearbox rebuilt, most suspension parts replaced, new radiators, new coil packs, alternator, water pump, flywheel, two clutches, 5 hoods (don’t ask!) + lots of minor items. So it’s also a Trigger’s Broom like Nick’s GT3 - Nick I think you were the first person to describe it as such.
When the car had done 100k in my care I worked out the cost of servicing and repairs at 30p per mile, which was a shock. I won’t do that again.

Brilliant. I love the classic 80’s colour as well, really suits the car.

So far, I've managed to avoid wearing out anything that can be replaced! Long may that continue - replacement parts are often not as good as OEM I hear

Really? Genuine parts you mean?
My 997.2 turbo is on 82k. It’s been bulletproof so far, new timing chain under warranty and it’s spot on.
It’s also for sale

I await poppopbangbang to come along with his 996. I reckon it’s got to be one of the higher miles examples but it’s a bit like triggers broom.
For those that don’t know he builds F1 cars. Some of the stuff he does is unbelievable.
168k on mine. Did a rebuild with hotter cams etc at 150-something. On the strip down the top end was showing signs of needing it but not the pistons. Changed them anyway from 3.6 to 3.8. Made the car better to drive IMO. Review and spend here:
https://aircooledbug.co.uk/porsche-993-engine-rebu...
Suspension had an overhaul, aircon replaced, but other than that it has been mostly modifications through choice rather than wear (aside from clutches, brakes, tyres, consumables).
Regular use probably helps keep them in good shape?

The damper service turned out to be a big one. Mr Billy said they were the most worn they'd ever seen!
All done though and running like a goodun now. Albeit only a road car, but the PASM works superbly.

Not mine but another one barely run in! N 190k its needed consumables and that's it - looked after by OPC from new.
I bought a Cayenne S at the end of Jan with 122k on it. The engine has been fine but it has spent just over half the time back with the dealer for ABS sensor failures (leaving me to be recovered from the motorway services) and then a gearbox issue which meant it was stuck in 5th for my 100 mile journey (coped very well tbf).
Looking forward to the fault being fully diagnosed and sorted. The dealership has been great with the warranty work and sorting out loaners to ensure I wasn’t stuck but it’s not the same as wafting around in the pig.
Can’t wait to get it back and put some miles on it!

Wow. Only new rads condensers turbo water pump and brakes all round on a Porsche in 4 years and still cheaper than a Focus.
That must be one s
te Ford!
(Excluding the desperation of course)
People still remained scared Porsche or not of high miles. 120k on my Boxster albeit not a daily. Previously bought AMG at 75k and Range Rovers at 175k and 155k.

Will Bilstein rebuild Porsche dampers (ie. Not branded, "Bilstein")? I thought they would only do actual Bilstein branded dampers even if the porsche ones were originally made by them
Nearly 60 k here on 2008 997. Not big miles but has needed a fair bit of work (as all do by this stage)
New suspension - dampers, arms bushes, mounts etc (complete except springs).
New condensers (twice)
New coolant pipes
New tandem pump
New exhaust fittings
New ICE (Kenwood DD)
Plus usual brakes, tyres, servicing etc.
Still on original clutch
I did 103k miles in a 987.1 Cayman S from new in March 2006. Sold it two years ago and it's now enjoying a second life as a trackday car that you can hire at the Nurburgring and Spa.

Wet wiring loom under the front carpets can cause various issues. Blocked drain often the reason. I got to mine and re did many of the corroded joints myself which cured issues. Check YouTube for how to vids.
Yeah, cheers for that. I did some research whilst deciding on this one and sorted them the day I got it home. Only one had any water in there.
Dealer has had it back for just over 50% of the 7 weeks I’ve owned it and they’re stripping it out now. Fingers crossed they get a result soon as this 1 litre Ford isn’t doing much for my street cred. Dealership has been supportive and apologetic - can’t say a bad word about them.

Cheers, I’ll make sure they check everything twice. Appreciate the nod
I bought my 987 Spyder in 2011 with 700 miles on it and its just ticked over 121,000 miles.
Apart from one fan control unit and a PSE control valve and servicing NOTHING had been renewed.
2 weeks ago, the whole suspension was refreshed (even sold the used parts as they still had life in them) which is the only major work ever done on it.
Will probably get deleted (again) but Cotswold Porsche did all the work = 5 stars from me
Its a keeper :-)

Great to see so many cars at reasonable miles, certainly dismisses some who think anything with more than 30,000 miles will explode in a ball of flames.
Just about to hit 74k on my 2010 987 3.4s and still going strong. Really not sure what else I could replace it with, unless I spend a chunk more money.
Am still tempted by a late 80’s 911 just to get away from all the computer stuff, but not sure how it would cope with being used as my daily.
I personally find all the mileage discussions RE Porsche's really interesting. Until 2 years ago or so I was very much a BMW M guy, and to an extent still am. In that territory, anything under 100K that was 10-15yrs old was viewed as "low" mileage. My GT3 has 46k miles on it, and I view that as exceptionally low mileage for a 2007 car that could be used daily. If it were an E92 M3 for instance, it would be a relative unicorn at that mileage in the same condition.
Yet Porsche's are viewed differently, despite being considerably more expensive. better built arguably (a point of view I agree with for what worth). So it's better built, costs more money yet I'm supposed to seek to use it less?
A bizarre concept!
Once these cars are all genuinely old (30yrs), the mileage will become less relevant, and the lucky user of those miles will have many stories, smiles & memories hopefully.

Im always looking out for high mileage GT3s as I'd rather have a properly used car than a garage queen. Never see them come up!
As someone has asked though, with these cars north of 100k miles, especially the GT/RS cars, what serious engine work has been done?
Nice to see though. Coming from the NSX world, I am used to seeing big 200,000 or 300,000 mile cars frequently.

Curious, at 123k mi is part of your invoice pile one for an engine rebuild as well?
Nope - have spoken to Hartech as assumed based on internet scare stories that it would need a rebuild, and was interested in the 3.9 conversion. Their advice was don’t do if it doesn’t need it. I get it serviced annually by Porsche Bristol and it’s fine, has always passed the checks for warranty extensions etc.

Now I have the official ski rack looking forward to a trip to the Alps next year.

993 9m RS or 9e 997 turbo your choice.
330bhp v 800bhp
Chalk and cheese but something to ponder. If 997 maybe we head to VMAX end of June? 993 knocks the spots of her though not even a fair contest. We can take all of them I'll bring another friend along who frequents these boards if he's not hopefully snowed under. I know he could do with an outing he works/manages Sheffield NHS trust totally off his feet at the mo. Thinking of you mate

VMAX sounds a great idea, never been before. The choice is hard, but I think it'd have to be the 993. Having owned a 993 targa that was a bit soggy (old suspension), I've always wanted to try the RS version!

This equates to 205'770 miles. 2004 997.1 C2 although on its second engine (engine @110k miles)...
Has received a new AT (Austausch) engine from OPC with the big bearing due to IMS issue.
Oil consumption is about 0.8l / 10'000km (6.25k miles), so virtually non existing.

My 2010 Boxster 2.9 6spd manual has just clicked over 158k. .... purchased Oct 2020 and she's only ever visited 2 garages in her whole life ....!!!!
The only other owner she's had was a company director who covered 142k and mostly motorway runs between Harrogate and London. I replaced the original clutch at just over 150k along with the megabucks OEM flywheel. She's had various suspension refreshes and apart from her 3rd set of gear linkage and a new starter motor, it's been nothing but servicing and regular oil changes.... they really built to be driven regularly and enjoyed.
Just passed the mot for the 3rd consecutive time without advisory.
Decided to sell over the next few weeks but will stay with the brand and scratch the 911 itch.
Service history, proof of regular quality oil changes and condition are the factors to consider for me..... lack of IMS on the 987.2 was a big factor.
My ‘00 996 is fast approaching 220,000 miles… on its all original engine.
Had quite a bit of rust sorted last year (detailed in the ‘what’s an early 996’ thread. Now running on 5w50 oil, which seems to have sorted the occasional chain rattle on cold start… uses no oil between services… still runs super smooth and pulls like a train.
Earlier this year…
993 Cabrio currently on 198,000 miles
Had some top end work done at 110k before I bought it.
Suspension all refurbed and various ancillaries replaced (alternator, starter motor)
Still drives really well, took it to the South of France last year and Le Mans this year. Looking forward to getting onto a track day with the refurbed suspension.
Does leak a small amount of oil now, but still a few miles left in it before an engine rebuild

I’ve just re-read my post and realised it missed a bit of detail…
The photo of the speedo is of my ‘87 S4 on the day of its demise, hence quoting Johnny, which unfortunately ended up like this in late-2021…
Having been lightly grazed by a Lexus IS250…
The current steed is the grey 968, to which the latter details apply
However the gist of your post is correct - transaxle Porsches are brilliant things and should indeed be looked after - nothing quite like them!
great to see these cars - surely this thread is blasphemy though - i keep getting told that if you use your car and put miles on it, it will surely implode and only be worth pennies

So, apart from new engine, new gearbox and new suspension, it’s got through the first 101,000 miles with nary a blemish…

Good man. Does it run properly on syvecs? Hows drivability at low speeds and in traffic etc?
Noted. The syvecs tuned cars i've seen have been pretty stuttery at low speeds and partial throttle may just be the tuning? Great at WOT but how often do we use this for normal road driving?
I'm at nearly 107k miles on stock ECU/engine and the 997's ECU fair bit newer than 996. Only issue I have ever had with Minty is that trackside hard launches from standstill even with TC switched off the TC still can cut in occasionally and cut power. This doesn't ever happen other than when on track with race fuel 750bhp + / 600ft lbs MS109 map. Other than this Minty drives like stock and I use as a daily. On V power 99 Minty around 650bhp to 680bhp and 590ft lbs who knows on cool winter days maybe even a bit more than this which is how I use the car 95% of the time.
I've been day dreaming about going 3.8, 3.9 or 4.1 with XR 1000 but then just go back to thinking I'll do a reliability build with rods, 12 inchhead studs, pin camshaft sleeves and weld coolant hoses and maybe just leave current big hybrid GT2 VTGS on as other than the extra slug of power right across the power curve from 2800rpm to 6750rpm you would not know mine is not stock. Minty has a lovely road set up about as quick as a stock 991/992 turbo s. Sounds like I need to look into syvecs a bit more if I go the big boy turbo route like you
Coincidentally 9e have just built a lovely red 996 turbo 4.1 with XR 1000. I think well over 100k miles too. Beautiful looking thing. Turbo. No substitute.
Yes the 996 on a boost controller. On my 997 no external boost controller i just upload a race map via laptop which advances ignition whenever trackside for the MS 109. All works well I have taken mine 59,000 miles in 2014 when I first stuck the 9e kit on to today at almost 107k miles. i'd recommend the 9e 28 tuning package for 997.1 turbo to anyone with shot VTGs on their 997. Those forged turbo engine parts I mentioned like ARP head studs, pauter rods etc Ken uses all from Todd at Protomotive who also tuned Minty nicest thing I can say having owned mine from new she still drives no different from stock other than the extra thrust which is exactly what I was looking for

987.2 Spyder - bought it with 700 miles in 2011 …. Now 133,000 trouble free miles - maintained at Cotswold Porsche
Wow amazing. Do you use it all weathers / seasons?

That's just a good looking red car with gold wheels
I've suggested gold wheels to others with red cars and they are just not brave enough
I've added gold wheels to my 986 - it's red - but I wasn't very brave and went with Aurum gold in satin finish
But I might change that for full on bright gold bling bling bling
Go bling or go home

Will be impressed when a 981 owner actually posts up anything over 60k…
the horror of anything >5k
Mines at 65K currently, bought it with 58K. I intend to take it to over a 100k where it will be worth 50p
