go into my profile, you'll see i changed the CDR24 no navi to an Alpine head unit, added one more amplifier to drive the Bose Sub woofer but it takes a lot of time to mess around with the current settings with the Bose System.
Leading evidence: 'Replace cdr24 no navi' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'impedance' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace cdr24 no navi' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Essentially improved amps and a few replacement speaker however i believe the problem is with the impedance with the bose system
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.
Replace whole bose system

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

If you download the pdf attached to the web page for more info, it says "Resistors for 2ohm speaker line." and that one is needed on each speaker wire when using a 4ohm amplifier.

The Japanese company that markets the bezels on ebay also shows that they sell the proper resistors necessary to use aftermarket amps with the Bose system...

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2007 cayman s with bose system, cdr24 no navi
can i add a new headunit with navigation like the pioneer? i know that it is more complex wiring but can it be done? what would be the cost?
anyone can post pics of their custom audio caymans?
Im thinking there has to be someone out there that tried. also, what about running an iphone with it?
thanks
You realize you are talking about replacing the whole Bose system. You can't add anything to Bose. The speakers are 0.50 ohms.
Most people who go this route buy a car without Bose and then replace everything.
Do a search and you will see that a number of members have replaced the original base system; even a few Bose have been fully replaced.
I believe the BOSE speakers are 2 ohms.
Ironlung: You may wish to do a search on this subject. Note that there is an automatic search already done for you at the bottom of this thread.
actually you can add the system to the bose, it just takes some experienced installers and little more complex than if it were a non-bose setup...mine is a bose, and i added a D3, and it sounds great! talk to an experienced installer and they will have to setup a new amp, but they can use the speakers if they know what they are doing! its not cheap though...good luck.

Is the
D3 an amp or the pioneer system? large improvement? would love to upgrade my bose system without flipping head unit. Essentially improved amps and a few replacement speaker however i believe the problem is with the impedance with the bose system
the D3 is the pioneer nav/head unit...porsche technology is way behind and this is a great option if you aren't stuck on a factory piece...either way you'll have to tweak your setup for a new amp(s)...
looks impressive. i gotta confess though, i've been driving around with my iphone and sure 500 headphones and it accomplishes all this with fantastic sound. However, i will hookup only when driving with the windows down and on more remote drives. until i can get around to getting the bose modified for ipod and bluetooth this will be my compromise.
Hey everyone. Im currently looking to tweak my BOSE system. For example, what does the installer need to do in order to get an aftermarket head unit installed?
Here's an install done by Stevie. A search will find you anything you want.

I have spoke to a couple of installers in my area and both have said it should be no problem. Does anyone know the process involved and what is difficult about the install in the cayman?
QTQC, no real difficulties... but I don't believe you can remove the Bose amplifier from the front trunk, it needs to be there for the MOST loop. But there are no problems with taking the headunit out and just bypassing the Bose amplifier.
You will also have to get new speakers, the Bose speakers do not have the same resistance as all aftermarket car amplifier (4-ohms). You will probably end up replacing the rear mid-range speakers, the front-midrange, tweeters and add a subwoofer; a great way to power this is a multiple channel amplifier (JL audio, JBL and infinity all make good 5 channel amplifiers) that will power your sub and power all the speakers (put the tweeters on a crossover with the front midranges).
Running new audio cables to all the speakers is optional... if you have a good installer I am sure they will do it. But... if someone is DIY'ing... you really can retain all the speaker cable runs, just splice them into the new amplifier.

this depends on the installers expertise..you don't have to get rid of the bose speakers but you will have to tweak the resistance if you keep them...the other option is to get all new speakers...if you keep the bose, you will need a different amp...thats how mine was setup!
Dave is right... The Japanese company that markets the bezels on ebay also shows that they sell the proper resistors necessary to use aftermarket amps with the Bose system... but I'm sure you could find the products closer to home... from the looks of it they were just standard inline DALE resistors... but there are many different claims to how many ohms the bose speakers are...
Here is a link to the resistor on the Japanese site, you can translate with google or altavista translation tools. If you download the pdf attached to the web page for more info, it says "Resistors for 2ohm speaker line." and that one is needed on each speaker wire when using a 4ohm amplifier.
