According to the very early threads (some on ********?) and currently on the Suncoast site, "fault codes must be reset by a Porsche dealer or at a repair facility with a PIWIS tester".

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Installed Cayenne XM kit in Cayman last week. Have PCM & CD Changer, simple plug & play install, sounds great, no programing needed.
Very very pleased.
I paid $702.00 & because there were no instructions for the Cayman it took me about 6 hours. If I had to do it again, it would be closer to 2 hours taking my time. Most of the time I spent was gaining access & not knowing how the parts were removed took me time. Very easy install.
It's a shame there aren't any more sirius tuners left out there, I know who bought up a bunch and he's sold them all. Porsche went exclusively XM so no more Sirius which is a shame as I like it better than XM. The install isn't hard, check out my Dension install or Navigation install and it is in some ways similar to both.
THe good news is: Soon it won't matter whether you are an XM customer or a Sirius customer. They have merged to keep the competitive edge against digital FM radio. They are still working on the details but its rumored that you will pick your stations and pay for the package you configure, combining your favorite stations from both.
I have been a subscriber of SIRIUS for a lil' over 4 years and have been SO happy with them... However if I have to buy an XM branded unit to work with the Cayman I likely will - especially if I can still tune into my favorite SIRIUS stations.
When is PIWIS reset needed?
After reading every thread and installation article I could find, I am now confused
about what I thought was one of the final steps in installing the XM module. According to the very early threads (some on ********?) and currently on the Suncoast site, "fault codes must be reset by a Porsche dealer or at a repair facility with a PIWIS tester". But you said "no programming needed", does that mean it worked fine without PIWIS? I do have PCM and navigation, but no CD changer as you do...is that what makes the difference?
I don't have the unit yet, but I am looking into installing satellite and Tooki, possibly ipod. The installation notes for the Dension, Tooki, etc. don't mention anything about needing the PIWIS step, so I am wondering in what situation is it needed and when it is not needed.
Thanks!
To answer my own question, I found this footnote in mObridge's Application Guide on their website for an upcoming bluetooth/ipod unit:
So the way I understand this, since I have navigation, my MOST ring is already activated, and no further PIWIS setup is needed after I install a bluetooth, XM/sirius, and/or ipod units?
I believe that is correct, it should auto-detect which positon they are in the ring, but if it doesn't for some reason or detects them incorrectly then yes you may want to put the car on a PIWIS to straighten that out but usually that's not immediately critical or anything. You "should" be ok, but then again I've seen funky stuff happen with Porsche MOST programming, etc.
Song info on the displays?
Thanks K-Man S that's helpful.
Now my question is for carpetyd and anyone else who has the PCM XM:
As you are listening, what song information is displayed in the screen below the tach? As I listen to XM in other cars, I like to leave the display to identify the artist. According to my brother (across the country) who has XM factory installed in his Cayenne PCM, the only way to view song/artist/album info is to press "info" on the PCM and then rotate the knob to select song info. Otherwise the PCM and instrument cluster screen only display the XM channel name.
Is this the same with the Cayman installation? The reason I ask is I'm just trying to weigh the pros and cons of upgrading from my current $40 XM roady FM modulator solution to either the Cayenne XM kit or the Nav-TV Sirius kit.
The only display was the channel name on both the nav screen & below tach, but I was informed that all information would be displayed if programmed by dealer. She is at my dealer today & I should have results by end of week.
Picked her up today & the artist & song will only display if info button is pushed.
But I was able to eliminate most of the optic lines on the XM unit, by interchanging the various plug connectors. It was very easy. I am surprised no one ever mentioned this simple solution to shorten maybe 8 feet of wires on the Cayenne kit.
