In my BMW days there were both factory and "hacked" firmware upgrades that enabled you to get really neat features such as perspective mode (2D), change colors, change voice accents, add a custom picture to the start up screen, etc.

For example my car didn't come with sport chrono display active in PCM and after much back and forth my dealer finally got it to work using the proper codes.

Does anyone know if you can update the firmware on the OEM Navigation unit to realize different features? In my BMW days there were both factory and "hacked" firmware upgrades that enabled you to get really neat features such as perspective mode (2D), change colors, change voice accents, add a custom picture to the start up screen, etc. Anything like this available on the Porsche system.

Currently there are no firmware updates, however, there are system options that can be tured on or off via codes entered into the PIWIS system by the dealer. For example my car didn't come with sport chrono display active in PCM and after much back and forth my dealer finally got it to work using the proper codes. The same is true for items like the phonebook option, if you didn't buy them from the factory they will be turned off. If you buy them after the fact the dealer can program them to turn on via the PIWIS machine. There is no way for an owner to program it themselves, as it requires sets of 16 digit codes that have to come from Germany to your dealer for the programming.

Thanks for the response K-Man! All the features referenced in the manual are turned on accept for the phone. I have a capable cell so not missing anything there.
