It's quite a change at first but you get used to it very quickly, it's much better to use than the standard shift.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Am I missing out by not having a short shift gearstick conversion done. The current setup has quite a bit of travel and is very smooth travel. I was expecting it to feel a bit more precise. Is it a must have mod on a manual to get the most enjoyment :?:
If it is a good idea then is there a typical one that owners buy for the 996 Turbo that gives best results and quality ?
Cheers
Deffo a good idea. Have you used a short shift in any other car? It's quite a change at first but you get used to it very quickly, it's much better to use than the standard shift.
I got my SSK off Alex from this forum, there is loads of threads on his SSK, it works very well.
Cheers

I had mine fitted by Sports & Classic back in 2012 when I bought the car. It was around £250 then for the part + fitting.
Mike at S&C only recommends the 997 SSK supplied from OPC for the 996 Turbo.
Today, he might have expanded his recommendation to after-market parts.
Give him a call and ask him for his thoughts and advice.
The issue with the SSK is due to nylon bushes its still sloppy .I would send a PM to forum member Alex Yates and buy one of his modified SSK kits he reworks them so they have metal bushes like the GT cars but still have the short shift unlike the GT cars. it removed all the slop and give a bolt action gear change . he has written an article on here somewhere about it . its effectively the best of a ssk combined with the best of a GT shifter. :thumb: :thumb: he will modify an OE SSK or an aftermarket SSK depending on what you want :thumb: :thumb:
Buy the 997 gt3 rs shifter from OPC, £210 with metal bushes and slightly shorter throw, have one in my 996 GT3 and it is excellent. 997 424 010 91 That's the part number.
Sorry, I'm confused in that case. I thought both were short Shifters, but yours was from the GT car, but the other was for a 997 manual ( which is preferred over the 996 option ). :dont know: ?
