Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Bought new ones and, as I also didn't like the look of how the hoses 996 110 631 74 and 996 110 631 75 and their clamps 999 512 349 02 fitted (saggy and with cuts), I replaced them all as well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just to chime in on my experience on the dreaded ABS/PSM lighting up. For years, I had these, on occasion, sometimes very frequently, sometimes with months in between. Always warm and at idle, stopped on traffic lights or in waiting for the garage door to open. With the Durametric, I could read the usual "Hot Film" and the "inconsistent DME value" errors. I tried several things (new ignition switch, new MAF, etc). Last year, I changed the plugs and a good look at the sealing rings (996 106 801 06) and retainer springs (996 106 802 12) of the pressure hoses. They didn't look good to me (09/2001, 175000km), the rings were saggy and the retainers were corroded and probably not making much pressure. Bought new ones and, as I also didn't like the look of how the hoses 996 110 631 74 and 996 110 631 75 and their clamps 999 512 349 02 fitted (saggy and with cuts), I replaced them all as well. In this case, I probably overdid it but with so many plug replacements this car had, somethings just give, I guess. Interestingly, the original sealing rings were orange and circular in section. The new ones are green, square section and double-lipped. Anyway, guess what? 8 months and 3000kms later, no ABS/PSM ever again... This would be coherent with the MAF measuring the airflow and engine ending up getting more than it sucked and measured through the in-leaks of the connections of the pressure hoses. Also, when the engine was hot, the connections would dialate and with low pressure situations after a run, low pressure inside the hoses would losen the connections, thereby letting air in. Makes sense to me. I thoroughly recommend to anyone who has the ABS/PSM intermittent errors to try this cheap fix: 6 x 996 106 801 06 + 6 x 996 106 802 12 = about 40€ of parts. Easier with the rear bumper out, but can be done with it on.
