Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Well like some of you I garage my Cayman. Last drove it on Halloween. Started it once in late November. Once after Christmas. Went to start it today, put the key in... nothing. Battery Dead? Key is stuck in ignition now for good? No way to open trunk or hood? Whats the best thing to do now? And by best, I mean easiest and cheapest. I can't get the key out which is a hassle too. I honestly thought, 2 months would be fine, but it got really cold once too.

POST 2Original post

Check the owners manual. You have to pull a tab out of the fuse box, hook up a charger/jumper cable to the tab and ground. Then you can open the hood and go from there.

POST 3Original post

If you look in the FAQ under Idiosyncracies, or you have the 2008 manual, you'll find the procedure for removing the key.

POST 4Original post

The above 2 suggestions are perfect. There is a way to charge the battery via the fuse box, just check the manual. Here is the Idiosyncrasies page in our FAQ that has a way to remove your key. The Cayman Club - FAQ: Miscellaneous I think you might want to think about a battery tender next winter.

POST 5Original post

I can't believe that it only takes 2 months, thats insane

POST 6Original post

Really? I can't believe the battery lasted 2 months without being hooked up to a battery tender.

POST 7Original post

Note: I don't think that you can actually charge the battery with this procedure; I believe it just unlocks the front boot so you can get to the battery. You might also be able to recharge the battery enough to restart it with one of those rechargers that plugs into the 12V outlet.

POST 8Original post

I like it! Might I suggest a Haiku instead: Battery is Dead Key in ignition for good Can't open the boot

POST 10Original post

Helpless I feel Key jammed like a sword in a stone must go now or: Golf clubs trapped in boot permanently when will this torment cease
