Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I've had to fill the hole with metal putty as a temporary bodge and now don't have reversing lights (not needed for MOT apparently).
Leading evidence: 'Fill hole' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill hole' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to replace what I assume is a fault reverse switch on gearbox.
Does anyone have any tips on getting the car comfortably high enough on stands to get to the front of the gearbox?
I lifted the car via the rear suspension mounting point (as per pelican parts tutorial), but I found with my trolley jack I could only really get high enough to get axle stands on rear jacking points on their lowest setting.
This would be fine for exhaust/engine work I suppose but seems a bit tight to get to the reverse switch on front of gearbox.
I didn't attempt it as was losing light.
Does anyone have any tips on best way to get enough height at rear to get car on higher axle stand settings?
Failing that I might make some ramps when lockdown is over and I can get to timber merchant..
I probably have a better trolley jack than you as I didn't have any problems getting the car high enough to access the switch however a few words of caution.
My switch had a plastic body around an aluminium thread which had galvanised to the gearbox, the plastic body snapped during removal leaving me with an exposed hole that allowed the gearbox to dump its oil when driven. I've had to fill the hole with metal putty as a temporary bodge and now don't have reversing lights (not needed for MOT apparently). I'm going to rig up another switch to activate the lights independently but will have to wait until the day the gearbox needs to be removed to rectify the problem.
I have a trolley jack with a 330mm reach. I should probably get one that's got a better reach...
Did you jack up the front to get the axle stand on the back same side, or did you jack up under the rear suspension to get stands under both sides of the back at the same time?
