(I'm guessing that this is related to disconnecting the battery.)

Would a good location (alternative) be to cut a small hole in the homelink console in the roof and run a similar very small button up there?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
With recent posts about the Passport SR7(+)/SRX, I wanted to throw up a couple of quick pics of an installation by a local shop. If anybody lives in the Maryland area, DSI Mobile Electronics did an excellent job and I would highly recommend them. (K-Man S: If this is inappropriate, please let me know as I can modify the post). And definitely many thanks goes to Gator Bite as he hooked me up with the system as well as the name of the shop.
Sorry for the bad pics, they were taken within the confines of a dark garage. Once I get an opportunity to take pics in daylight hours, I'll be sure to post them.

The plug you gave them in your message is fine, anything beyond that though they would need to consider becoming a sponsor. BTW I am moving this to Cayman Electronics where it belongs.
Patrick,
Not at all as the system was meant to be installed in the front bumper area. What you see in the front bumper pic is the laser jammer and each side has one. The radar detector is installed next to the fog light behind the black plastic piece.
Hope this answers your question.

Quick question: Can you see the display regardless of the shifter position?
Sounds like a dumb question, but I had it installed in a similar place on my 'vette (which has a higher console and shifter, mind you) and 3rd gear completely blocks the display. Argh!
Not a dumb question at all. The only shift position that might be a problem is 1st gear. (If I get caught speeding in 1st gear, there might be other issues
). I actually hardly ever look at the display as I key off of sound.
Also, you can purchase an optional led display that can be integrated with your gauges so that it's more visible.

Moto,
That seems like a very natural place for the control head. Where did you have them put the remote mute button?
I'm glad DSI took good care of you. You are going to love driving with the Escort. Just make sure you turn on the laser shifters. And personally, I would set it up to turn X band off completely or at least in City mode.
Good luck man. Talk to you soon,
GB
Hey Gator,
Actually, DSI didn't install the remote mute button which I'm actually okay with as I hate putting holes into the dash. DSI actually already set everything up for me which includes turning on laser. The only thing I changed was turn X to LoX. I may turn it off later as you recommended. I couldn't ask more from a shop except for price.
Thanks for the great advice!

Yep, that be the one. I'd say I was their first install because they never heard of the Cayman. They kept saying, "Do you mean Cayenne?"
I was a little worried about that response initially but figured the Cayman is not that different from the
Boxster
in most respects and they have done plenty of them.
Amazingly, they didn't even take off my bumper AND managed to lose a mile on the odometer.
(I'm guessing that this is related to disconnecting the battery.)
I'd rather not post up price but let's just say they were really expensive but part of it was I did not purchase SR7+ from them but with the discount from Gator, I still saved a bundle. You should call them up and talk to Levi.
Hope this helps.

Motofanatic - Hope you like the unit. I really like mine. My head unit was installed on top of the cubby like yours. After a couple of months I moved it to the bottom rear of the cubby. I can see it just as well, maybe better, it's out of site from outside the car and it's easier for me to put things in the cubby and reach them. Also no holes are necessary to install the remote mute button. They can just run it under the dash and then stick it next to the ignitition switch for example. It's a big help to have it close at hand, I didn't turn off x band so get more false alarms. It also allows you to turn off the laser shifting remotely I recently found out. No holes were needed for the LED remote display either. The wire is flat at the bulb so they were able to install mine just to left of the right instrument cluster. Photos are here.

Hey 1JB,
Gotta say I love it so far. I know a number of people that have the same unit and the laser jammer has definitely saved them.
I see you went all out on the install. I opted out of the rear jammer and the led. I realize the installers are professional but the less they mess with, the less things have a chance of going wrong.
I really haven't decided anything on the remote mute button yet. It's a nice feature to be able to stop laser from jamming BUT...
My mute button was installed on the very end of the turn signal stalk - pointing out from the end (picture later) - seems a natural place to have it and easy to reach from the steering wheel.

Swancoat - he said it was standard for all the jobs he did. I didn't realize until this thread that it is not the same elsewhere.
I guess the steep $$$ he charged was a little more warranted! (About $3000 Can. all in - same gear as Motofanatic in his original post).
==RedEye
Nope, not yet but laser does start shifting when I encounter red light running cameras so I know it's working since my regular laser detector goes off at the same spots.
Personally, I hope I never run into one of these things.
I have the same unit and my button is also just to the right of the steering wheel, it is a good place and easy to use. I find the unit very responsive.
I bought a Cayman with the SRX already installed. I can SEE the two laser shifter units, one on either side, inside the intakes under the fog/parking lights. What I can't see is the main radar receiver. The installation instructions say that it should be in the middle, in the grill, unobstructed. I don't see it. Would it have been installed inside the nose, behind the lower center cupped "scoop"?
I hope someone can help. I don't want to install the front plate until I know where the receiver is.
Update: DOH!!! I just realized that there is a picture with the radar receiver unit location circled. So, let me ask again... Would MINE be in that same location? Can it be behind that plastic cover above the fog/parking light?
I like the stealthy look of the mute button on the end of one of the levers! Would a good location (alternative) be to cut a small hole in the homelink console in the roof and run a similar very small button up there?
Just brainstorming.
It could be but it depends more on who does the installation. If you look under the car (or remove your foglight spears) you might see some wiring or even the radar receiver itself.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck!

Update to my earlier questions/comments.
I called Brumos in Jacksonville, FL where my SRX was installed. Believe or not the guy that answered the phone saw in the records of the car who had done the install. He was THERE!!! So, he asked where the front radar receiver would have been installed. Of course, he will not have remembered doing my EXACT car (after 1 year and a half) but he was fairly certain that it is inside the nose. I said... REALLY??? How did he get it in there? Answer.... took off the nose.
Anyway, I was satisfied that putting the license plate in the front center "scoop" would not interfer with the radar receiver. If I ever take the nose off, which I'm not planning on, I'll find out for sure. AND, when I do take off the fog/parking light surround, I'll have a look in there too.
At least they confirmed that the receiver picks up fine through th "plastic". The laser receivers, of course, need to be unobstructed. I'll have to work on a new way to put my mesh in the front intakes. The lasar receivers/shifters stick out a little into one of the sections on either side.
Also, I noticed someone call them lasar "jammers"... As I understand them, they actually SHIFT the received beam so as to return a FALSE reading rather than no reading at all. I haven't run into a laser yet, but you are supposed to "push the button" to turn off the shifting once you are back to a reasonable speed. That way, I guess, the kindly officer, will then get a true reading as you toodle on by. Wave at him for effect!
If I remember correctly, you press once to mute and twice to turn shifting off but generally, you are correct. Once you've reduced your speed, you can turn shifting off so the officer can get a reading.
