Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If it fails again I'll change it, but it's easy enough to do so I'll see how I get on with the repair first.

My car is my daily driver and it's getting boring holding the glass down using the interior handle to shut the door lol.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Before I click buy it now on the new mechanism on ebay (£70) is there anything I should know. It's just the usual, glass going back up after door is open so must be the catch microswitch or dry joint or something. Just thought I'd check here first!! Cheers.
Please describe your fault in a little more detail
A door lock mechanism sounds like what you are wanting to buy and that is indeed the cause of most window issues .
Can I piggy back on his thread please?! :?
A 996 TT I'm looking at has an issue with the drivers door where it is moving the window in the opposite way to the way it should, I.e. it pushes the window up to its closed position when you pull the door handle up to open the door and it moves the window down when you release the door handle to close it.
This results in the door not closing properly.
Can this be solved by a door lock mechanism or handle replacement? :?:
It will be the microswitch on the latch that tells the door is open and to hold the glass down. Interior and exterior handles do the correct command. I'll just replace the assembly. My car is my daily driver and it's getting boring holding the glass down using the interior handle to shut the door lol.
On one of my door handles there was a little bit of internal wear on the microswitch and it had to be pushed very slightly further to operate than the lever was doing, I put a small plastic shim on it to fix the problem. If it fails again I'll change it, but it's easy enough to do so I'll see how I get on with the repair first.

Yes I read that on another thread. I've bought one £85 delivered with a years warranty. It's a new one so should be ok. Ironically my hazard warning switch is also playing up lol. These old girls are a full time job hehehe
