Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi OPC sold 991.1 GT3 with 1 rear tyre not N rated. So annoying. Came up with BS that N rating can be on inside of tyre. Will replace tyre but other side is on 6mm so under load I don't think they will work the same, thoughts? Porsche match if there is 3mm difference. 111 point check only works on your trade in as a why to get price down it appears.

Insist on the pair changed or take up with Porsche hq in reading. Get a case number and you should get a result.

POST 4Original post

They sold me a GT4 with a 'plug' in a rear Cup2. What was it the dealer told me about tyre repairs on GT cars..............

POST 5Original post

Looks like the penny pinching is starting. From my experience the opc I use will only put N rated tyres on a porsche and they will definitely not put a plug in one! I bought an insurance policy once for tyres and they asked at the time if the tyres were to be N rated due to it being a new porsche. The policy obviously went up in price!

POST 6Original post

Funnily enough I just had my GT3 serviced at my OPC after collecting from a different OPC in May and all four brake caliper nipples are seized on the inside. Two of the plastic wheel liners are goosed too. 111 point check doesn’t check for this either apparently.

POST 7Original post

Had understood per another thread that n rated tyres were no longer a warranty requirement.

It had been serviced, c/w a brake fluid flush the day before I collected the car. The master tech I spoke t at the OPC who sold me the car said they onlt blled about 10cc from each caliper. I pointed out that that doesnt really change the fluid as most is still in the brake pistons. Anyway, I eventually got 2 brand new calipers off them. Makes me very wary of having it's 8 year service done by an OPC next year, just to keep its fabled full OPC service record.

I’ve let them know I’m not happy and waiting to hear back from the supplying OPC. I’m not paying for 4 new calipers that’s for sure. It is worse case but still, I’m a bit disappointed as I have no doubt it will be used against me if I try and trade it in.

Probably just a sloppy check done by a tech and the sales bod won't bother looking for themselves. Just speak to them nicely and they should sort it out. Re the tyre with a plug in it ...... Unless it was really obvious or the owner failed to mention it , how would anyone know ?

Otherwise its silly to even raise it. But this comment sums it up, its astounding that these polished Arthur Daleys get away with it. Here come the fanboys to wax lyrical about expensive showrooms and salaries etc but before you do, think about it, £10k and you cant abide by your own rules? Bring on the recession/debt crash, I cant wait for the odd charlatan to be brought down a peg or two.

Bring on the recession/debt crash, I cant wait for the odd charlatan to be brought down a peg or two. Bang right it does I got conned into a full set of tyres on a GT3 in order to have the warranty due to funnily enough having the wrong N rating tyres. How the tyres have any impact on warranting a car who knows. What I do know is that Porsche dealers have very expensive premises and lots of staff to pay for.

POST 16Original post

Surely a 991.1 GT3 should have Cup 2 tyres? When I replaced the rear tyres on my long gone 996 (Michelin PS2 N3) i checked the tread depth before they went on the car. The outer tread depth was 7mm and the inner 6mm so there was a stagger (correct word?) across the tyres. I had always thought that new tyres came with 8mm. Doesn't a Cup tyre come with less than that?

POST 20Original post

The supplying dealer has asked me to take the car to my local Porsche specialist to resolve. It took a bit of wrangling but I’m happy, the specialist says they will definitely not break the seized nipples. They must have even more highly trained engineers than Porsche?!?!

Soak them over a couple days with decent penetration spray and get a tiny bit of heat in the calliper before you give them a crack. If they snap its no drama, not sure what the fuss is about. Ive done it a few times and Im no Jeremy Burgess.

POST 23Original post

Joscal said: You should get a job in my OPC they say they'll break and four new calipers will be needed. Because they know there are/were many fools they can blag. How many people really know and understand their cars? Very few I reckon.

POST 24Original post

Exactly! Chancers, I’m also a bit miffed that the 111 point check from the supplying dealer didn’t pick up the faults in the first place.

POST 25Original post

Having read the extended warranty, it doesn't appear to be invalidated by, non N marked tyres for example. The fault, needs to related to any mods/faulty workmanship by a non OPC to not be covered. It just appears the actual warranty wording is ignored, which is:- "A claim made under Your Policy for the repair or replacement of a defective system or component shall be invalid to the extent that the defect results from any of the following" It then list various things, but, for example, if you changed an exhaust and a headlight failed, according to the warranty wording, that should be covered, as the defect is unrelated and not part of the same 'system' and completely separate component.

POST 27Original post

Yes, I want to eventually replace with a Lithium battery, but not the overpriced Porsche branded stuff!! Often depends on the OPC dealing, how understanding they are when they pitch warranty repairs to Porsche/Warranty insurer. I will have the conversation with my OPC when the warranty is due for renewal next year and see what they say re different exhaust fitment, battery etc. Let us know how you get on re battery
