Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

My wife & I both drive the CS and we both have our keys programmed for auto seat settings & mirror settings. Every so often when I drive the CS, I'll stop, get out to do something, get back in and the settings have changed. Press the button & everything returns to where it should be. I've tried identify a pattern and if anything it appears to happen most often when I lock & unlock the doors. But not every time. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance for the thoughts.

POST 2Original post

Is your wife with you when this happens? If so, maybe her key in her purse or pocket is getting inadvertently pressed, and actuating her settings. Or, maybe you are accidentally hitting the memory button on the door panel for her settings while getting out. Otherwise.... Gremlins?

POST 3Original post

Are you and your wife swapping keys? The settings are tied to the keys.

POST 4Original post

My Audi also does this. I have re-programmed the key a number of times.

POST 5Original post

The wife is usually not with me when I'm driving & we're not swapping keys as far as I can tell. Gremlins like this can drive you nuts. The wife & I are about the same height so settings are close but not the same. I hop in, start driving, glance at the mirrors and I'm looking at a different views. Then I notice the seat back setting is different. I guess I'll have to keep a log to try and see if a pattern develops.

POST 6Original post

It might have something to do with the time you are absent from the car between lock/unlock. There are certain things that get turned off as the time gets longer; for example I believe after two minutes the MOST bus shuts off, 48 hours the keys receiver turns off, etc. Does it happen on shorter or longer absences from the car? Also, just out of curiosity; does the Cayman have a convenience feature where it pulls the steering wheel or seats away to help you get in an out? - Suneet

POST 7Original post

I think its clear that the problem lies with the programming for each of the keys and specifically, that it is possible you have both keys programmed to the same seat settings. The radio receiver shuts down after one week. Pop

POST 8Original post

Since the steering wheel is manual (at least on my car), can't move the wheel. I haven't found any way to make the seats move back when the ignition is cut off. My friend's Mercedes C350 does have that feature.

POST 9Original post

I just found out that the seats and mirror settings are moving around on my wife too. Very strange... the saga continues..

POST 10Original post

Very interested since my Audi does exactly the same for both keys. I have reprogrammed them several times but it still occurs. Same family after all so maybe the same problem. Southwest phenomenon? AZ and NM.

POST 11Original post

I just turned off key recognition and left the seat/mirror settings on buttons 2 & 3. I couldn't figure out what else key recognition does except automatically move things around when unlocking the doors. Hopefully this will eliminate the problem.

POST 12Original post

You probably already know this but it happened to me when I first got the car. I would make changes to the seat and mirrors and hit the "save" button but a few times I forgot to do it with the key in the ignition and hit the "save" button on the door with the pic of the key. When I would lock and unlock the car with the key it would change the settings to what they were when I had saved them and not saved them to the key.
