Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

All looks simple, apart from each time they've installed the numeric shifter.
Leading evidence: 'Install numeric shifter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best person' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install numeric shifter' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Anyway all fitted on a 997 gt3 shifter and what a difference!!

Has anyone installed these on a standard (997gt3 actually) gear shifter.

Used the cable insulation actually I think that's more to stop it banging on the water pipes it's routed over.

You've obviously missed out on the considerable physical pain and mental anguish invloved in replacing the AOS whilst the car is on jack stands on the drive in the rain.

To be honest the gear change has been atrocious in the car for ages and I've replaced everything trying to rectify so I'm just more than happy it's slick!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've bought the numeric cables and had them on the shelf for three months! Seen as I'm only managing a few days work a week I'm planning on doing them next week. Has anyone installed these on a standard (997gt3 actually) gear shifter. I have the cables, the small wrench, the plastic cups and have watched the YouTube video. All looks simple, apart from each time they've installed the numeric shifter. I see the right hand (looking from inside the car) cable is simple. However the left hand cable is not a 'cup' at that end and on the numeric shifter it appears to be attached with a screw and washer backing it. Obviously if no ones had any experience I'll ring design911 just wondered if anyone had done this before I start and find I do require something else!
Arguably the worst DIY to do on jack stands, an absolute b!tch to get the rubber grommet out without dropping the transmission. Easiest on a lift with the transmission carrier removed. The hard part is knocking the rubber bung out from inside the cabin and then replacing after. You really need access without the transmission carrier in place to get the bung back in with all 3 of the cables running through. Also, use plenty of silicon spray.
And just before we have some coronavirus judging!!! Its less than two miles from my house in the absolute middle of nowhere and has all of my work items at the rear and mezzanine levels!!!
Very fortunate that I need a unit for my work and was able to buy a farm unit very cheaply that divided up to half work and half hobby ! It's a second hand ramp, you can get them cheaply if they're no longer compliant with current regs etc.
You've obviously missed out on the considerable physical pain and mental anguish invloved in replacing the AOS whilst the car is on jack stands on the drive in the rain. Even drilling out 9 out of 12 of the exhaust manifold bolts under the same conditions was less taxing. I found replacing the gear cables a walk in the park in comparison.
So fitted today, not too bad a job, bearing in mind I have a ramp!! For those that have done it on the floor I take my hat off!! Hardest part was pushing the rubber noise boot back into the body.
Anyway all fitted on a 997 gt3 shifter and what a difference!! Can actually make accurate gear changes which hasn't really happened in the last three years. No real noise but an odd cable rattle at low rpm as you come to a rest for example. I'll double check everything but I think this will be a sacrifice of solid cables! I have semi solid mounts, polybushed gearbox mount and a noisy exhaust so it's all 'character' on an occasional use car. Would msssively recommend the cables
Hi All.. How do the Numerics cables compare to the cup cables..? does anyone have any experience of both.. I was thinking of getting cup cables when I fit my shortshifter.. but if these are as good or better I might go this way instead..
No standard flywheel. It's not a terrible noise just a slight rattle that wasn't there before hand. Like most things if they add to the character you get used to it. To be honest the gear change has been atrocious in the car for ages and I've replaced everything trying to rectify so I'm just more than happy it's slick!
I think that Numeric also sell these insulating cables, apparently to remove a noise similar to what you describe. You may already have these fitted but if not might be worth considering as an add on.
(I've tried to attach and image which may or may not work but the insulation tubing is on the Numeric website)
Aside from the sound though, how do you rate the shift with the new cables? I ask because they are on my shopping list too.
Also did you get them from the UK or imported from the US?
Used the cable insulation actually I think that's more to stop it banging on the water pipes it's routed over. The shift is excellent! Bearing in mind mine were terrible, so bad 4th to 2nd was an impossibility! They are also massively adjustable to should be able to eliminate any future movement in the cables
NXI20 is probably the best person to ask. I bought a set of Numeric cables and the shifter from him which were in the 997 GT3 he bought. I assume he will have gone back to stock 997 cables or possibly and more likely Cup cables.
