Suggestion
Check the rear wing functions correctly and if any error messages then knock at least a grand off to replace.

Suggestion
When they go they go and although several of the people on here have repaired them, if mechanics and electronics are not your thing then like I say at least a grand to replace with functioning one.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all...
It's been a while since I dropped into the 996 area - but thought you guys would know more than me here as it's about 8 years ago I sold mine!
A friend has asked my opinion on a nice looking Turbo. The price looks a little high, but it is X50, and has low miles and good history.

What do you think?
Looks clean and well prepared/presented.
Low mileage, original by the looks of it (not modified).
Service history glossed over. Needs a full review, who carried out services at what mileage and where. Annuak services alternates between major/minor services. Brske fluid every 2 years irrespective of mileage. On a low mileage car, spark klugs must be changed not later than every 4 years with/without a major service.
Lot of high mileage dogs out there - especially Turbo cars.
Check it really is an X50. Under bonnet sticker and service book stickers must match ststing X50 option. Some cars are chipped stock cars claimed to be X50. Different intercoolers on X50. Underneath, larger K24 turbos.
Check rads, condensers when last replaced.
Have an indy inspection if Harbour allows it - they henerslly have a good nane, but indy inspection might give reassurance.
Price - dogs are cheap (for a reason). Clean low mileage manual box cars with good service and maintenance are dearee (for a reason).
Hi I have been to that show room a few times when I was looking they have some nice kit and seem to know there product!! I paid a fair bit less than that although I have spent on upgrades since!! ... as said before it should be littered with X50 in the documentation...
Thanks guys - like I said, this isn't for me, I'm tied to an old air cooled :thumb:
I'm going to share the link with the interested party so they can review more knowledgeable comments....
Anybody else got any thoughts or feedback?
Check the rear wing functions correctly and if any error messages then knock at least a grand off to replace. Don't take any bollox regarding the fact that it's intermittent. When they go they go and although several of the people on here have repaired them, if mechanics and electronics are not your thing then like I say at least a grand to replace with functioning one. Yes you can fix them permanently in the up position for not much money but.........
So what I'm getting from this is to check that it's definately
X50
, and that is the main thing to confirm.
It has a full service history, and the advert suggests main dealer - tick.
It is low miles, and only 2 owners - tick.
They are offering 12 months full warranty, so if any of the usual stuff rears its head (air-con condesers etc.), then it will be sorted - tick.
They are offering a full independant inspection - tick.
I think Cheshire911 has nailed it with his comment "Price - dogs are cheap (for a reason). Clean low mileage manual box cars with good service and maintenance are dearer (for a reason)"
Is there anything else to consider?
Not sure how long it's been in stock, might have to dig out some old magazines :?:
EDIT: Just spotted - it appeared in 911uk classifieds on 3rd March
Before the current situation, £50k for a genuine X50 from a recognised Porsche specialist is what you'd expect to pay for a below average mileage car.
There are a couple of others, both more expensive, on AT/PH that can be used as a benchmark.
The main attraction of the X50 is its rarity amongst standard 996Ts. If the car is to be a garage queen the Harbour one looks a great buy but if it's for more regular use and with a £50k budget the 997.1 Turbo might be abetter bet.
I do like the colour of that, but the interior of the Harbour car looks like a much nicer place to sit.
There's a 10k difference in price, but the Harbour car does seem to stack up better overall. Maybe they'll give a bit on the price..... :dont know:
