Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When you turn on your air con, how much noise do you, or would you expect to hear. When I turn mine on, I hear the compressor in the back and a rumble from the front. Both of these are clearly audible over the sound of the engine. Is this right? the compressor sounds far to loud to me :dont know: Fan speed is on 1 bar, i.e. minimal. :?: :?: :?:

POST 2Original post

If the level of noise given off by the A/C is louder than your engine, it's pretty obvious to me you need new pipes: Seriously though, I guess unless you are proposing some mid-life lube and rebuild service, if it works, leave well alone. Otherwise I suppose it could be compressor clutch, bearings etc. Do you use A/C much?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the reply. :thumb: No, I dont use the air con, but the car is under warranty, so if it's broke I want it fixed. I paid enough for it :coat: It'll be interesting to see how the after sales is! Cheers Jim.

POST 4Original post

air con groaning My 996 aircon used to groan and rumble from both the front and rear. Found it had a leaky pipe under drivers door. Once that was fixed a regas cured all the noises and no problems since. My guess is you need the system regassed (the gas has a lubricant in it) but the question is why?. Although gas can deminish over time it usually means a leak somewhere , most often the front condensers.
